anyone else have horrible luck?

hello to everyone! i would just like to say that though i love my svx to pieces, it just refuses to stay fixed. Am i the only one who has dumped close to $6000 into my vehicle and with everything i fix it seems to run worse?! *sigh* i dont know what the fate of my vehicle will be, i can hardly afford to keep the thing running, im a full time student! and i think we all know.. parts are definetly NOT cheap! (and for that matter neither is the gas!) id love to hear your stories!

no, you're definately not the only one. i sunk $k into mine throughout the last 4 months and then my tranny went out for another $2k (been 2 weeks and i still haven't gotten my car back from them).

my car was like that. then i took it to svxfiles shop and it runs beter than it did when i got it. he replaced a valve in the intake. i also had alot of belt problems but they were recently fixed. the svx is a hard thing to work on if the shop isnt familar with the car.

Don't feel too bad, I blew the tranny in my car on the way home from buying it! I had over $6k in repair bills the first month I owned it..

The best place I would recommend is Marion Motors (Dino is the SVX expert there). They aren't a dealership but they were the only Subaru dealership while the SVX was being sold. I wouldn't recommend Frontier Subaru simply because they started up in 1998. They have no real SVX knowledge.

After that would be my dad. He's been a mechanic his whole life and he's one of the extremely few I trust with my SVX (He also has one).

Well I think I may have ya all topped.

1. replaced headgaskets
2. modded up a little
3. replaced the trans
4. Now i need to replace the entire motor(again)

Am I the first person to kill an SVX motor without it being on the gas? or forced induction of any kind?

Tom

wow, I'm probably the one of the few lucky one? I have been driving my SVX for more than 3 years now. The major one I had was the timing belt. it was not even because of the belt, but the water pump got frozen and the roller melted the belt til it broke. Fortunately I had my mechanic friend, so he helped me fixiing the belt/water pump in my garage.

Other things I spent..

rear hub bearing
CV boots
spark plugs
battery
oil changes
tires
brake pads

...fine tickets.

Having said that, I drive really carefully not to damage any mechanical things on my SVX. Not driving so hard..anymore. I kinda get tired of driving hard in LA!

Last year, before the Fourth of July, I lent Nick's(boxer6) 96 SVx to a local policeman, a customer of mine.
Since the trans had basicly lost fourth gear, I asked him to use third gear only, He agreed.
Two hours later, he called from Route 68, no transmission, and the engine with a high pitched squeel and a knock, that I hoped was a cracked flexplate.....It was not a flexplate...

Thats the story of how Nick got another engine, and the first 4.44

I still have'nt had the chance to find out what the deep knock was, but the squeel was the timing belt cover melting down onto the crank pulley .

Nope, I killed mine in July of '02 (in the first month I owned the car) Subaru dealer didn't tell me a rod was knocking when I picked up the car after just getting the transmission done by them.

Damn, you got me beat. Mine went 28 days before the first transmission blew. Over the next few years I had the damn thing rebuilt ten more times. Total of eleven. When that one blew two years ago, I got smart and opted for the 5 speed swap.

The SVX is a very quirky car. If you find a mechanic that loves it, you're set. If not, you're in for a rough experience.

Also, on a personal level, almost seven years to the day after breaking my last mirror, I broke another one. Let me guess, in another seven years, I'll break another one???
