Hood emblem
What is the best way to get the hood emblem off of the car without breaking it?
I bought the SVX emblem and would like to replace the stock one, but I do not want to break the stock one, I would like to keep it incase I want to switch back to it at some point.

Dental floss works just fine as well.

Definitely a good idea to keep the old one in tact. I found out the hard way that a previous owners respray did not go underneath the emblem. I now have an oval shaped section of original paint surrounded by raised chipping clear coat and paint.... Not pretty at all.

I unbolted the hood latch peice from the bottom of the hood. Beneath it is a hole through which you can see the prongs from the hood badge. I used a screwdriver to give one of the points a push and it popped right off. The hood latch bolt holes aren't slide type ones, so there's no worry of screwing up you hood's latchability.

I used a flathead screwdriver and carefully popped it off.

My emblem was worn so much that you couldn't see the subaru symbol anymore so it didn't bother me if it cracked(which it didn't BTW). I plan on shaving off the holes before I get it painted anyway.

Didn't realize it was on with pins ... so the card didn't work too well. I ended up carefully prying with a paint scraper and it came off very easily. It must have been off before as there was no glue to be found.

It comes off really easy if you warm it up a little to soften the glue. Park the car in the sun, or use a hair dryer or fan heater. You don't need to warm it too much - don't use a paint stripping gun.

Thanks for all the replies. I tried it on the teal first "just incase" something was to go wrong. The emblem popped right off with just a bit of pressure.
The one on the Claret was glued down and took a little more work to get off, and the glue was a royal pain to get off, but the Claret now has a beautiful "SVX" emblem and the teal has the Clarets old Subaru emblem. They look good! Thanks again everyone!
