Well the idea of a swap in system from an STI has been bouncing around my brain for the last couple days. If the mounting points are all the same (the strut bolts in fine) the only problem is the end link mount on our front struts. Is there anything to stop us from welding a bracket onto the control arm beneath the sway bar and finding an appropriate end link to make it work?
I may try hitting up the local Subie club to see if anyone has an unused STI strut that I can borrow for fit testing.

Dunno, but that is basicly what I was going to try. Take a 05 STi front coilover and play with top hats and see if I need to change up the mounting to the hub. It sounds like the 05 STi uses the SVX front hub, but I can't be sure

if you guys figure this out lemme know... I can get parts from my local dealer at anywhere from 20-40% off and it'd be nice to put in the sti ones... I'll just mail the parts to one of you guys that know what you're doin n pay ya to set it up for me... if anyone's interested and figures it out... I'll be checkin this thread for updates...

If you or I or anyone else ends up pursuing this further, I was putting snow tires on an '05 Outback today and noticed that the rear sway bar end link would probably fit the bill perfectly for what we would need. I've got some parts coming at the dealer, when I go pick them up I'll see if I can grab an endlink for a quick size check.

Okay, so I picked up a rear endlink from an '05 Outback and it should work nearly perfectly. I even used the nut from the SVX's link to secure it. With a small bracket welded to the control arm we should be able to use it no problem. I'm going to pick up a set of control arms to try this with. Here's a picture of the Outback link attached to the swaybar and positioned where I think the bracket should attach.
Don'tcha just love the rust...Lifetime Canadian SVX there!

So if you weld a bracket onto the control arm we could then theoretically put in STi suspension parts?

That's what I'm planning on trying. I've posted on the local Subaru forum asking if anyone has a spare STI or Forester suspension that I can borrow for fit testing. Foresters have the same mounts as the STI. Hopefully things will mount up. If the lower strut body fits the knuckle and the top doesn't, we can probably just use the upper mounts from the Koni/GC setup and swap it on to whatever suspension. If the knuckle won't fit, we're kinda dead in the water.

There is someone here in town selling a stock STi set up for 400.- You probably aren't interested though as you just want it to mock up.

Pretty much. I just want to borrow a set for fit testing, hopefully for free. I'll be going for coilovers if it works. $400 (more like $380 for me) + shipping isn't something I can afford just to see if it works.
Edit: Just got an offer from one of the guys to lend me a v7 STI setup for the test.

So the only mod would be a bracket on the control arm? Simply weld it on and the bolt on the aftermarket STi suspension of your choice?

That's what I'm aiming for I would start with a quick chop and weld bracket, but once I've got the best size figured out I'll go to the machine shop and have a batch made properly.

daaaamn, if i wsnt trying to pay off a new bike and wasnt about to drop money on a wrx front clip, id be on this list!! but, when my christmas bonus comes in 3 weeks, if its half or more, ill def. be on that list! i can set aside a bit so when theyre finished, i can pay the balance!! so i hope my boss isnt stingy this year!!
