Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

^^^Now that looks like fun...

Replaced my right front axle tonight. It eliminated the vibration I was having on the freeway and during high speed braking. I'm soooo glad that's fixed....

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I installed my restored headlights with an HID upgrade done by Prolightz. There's a thread in the Mod Mania forum that gives all the info.

The lights came out of my '92 donor and they look like new!
And I'm really pleased with the output of the HIDs -- a nice bright white light.

Now I need the get the snow tires on as winter arrived this week.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Ripped off my rusty, rattling, useless pre-cat shields.
Swapped my floppy rear view mirror for a good one from my parts car.
Then installed some more LED illumination bulbs in various buttons and switches. Now I can see my overhead buttons in the dark!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Passenger seat jammed while sliding back a few days ago. It would slide forward and back about 2 inches and not lock into place.
Started to pull it out for a look and found that one of the bolts was flopping around and wouldn't unscrew from the nut on the other side.

Took it back to the panel shop and found out he had refitted the seat bolts using a air gun rather than a hand tool and had apparently broken off the nut inside the bodywork that the seat bolt threads into.

An hour of mucking around later and we had cut the bolt off and got the seat out. Set about repairing the broken off bolt by welding a washer over the hole, drilling out a 12mm hole and fitting a rivet bolt (some sort of bolt/nut combination that works like a rivet).

While the panel guy did that I went looking into the seat to work out why it had jammed. Worth noting that it had released and was working ok sometime during the pull apart to get it out.

Eventually I found a Japanese 100 yen coin covered in grease and badly bent out of shape jammed in the seat track. Pulled this out, refitted seat, bolted up the rivet bolt and all is fine and dandy.

Vacuumed the carpet and fitted the mats.

Connected the battery up to one of those fancy 7 stage intelligent chargers in an effort to get the battery working correctly.

Off to the muffler shop tomorrow to get a small exhaust leak fixed.
Back to the Subaru dealer on Thurs to get the WOF (state safety inspection) repeated (it failed on the exhaust leak only). Then on Friday off on a 500km road trip. (Hamilton to Wellington, via New Plymouth).

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Fixed my droopy visor this past weekend. Final cost for the fix: essentially free

I used zip ties and some krazy glue

Closed it all up with a hot glue gun and pliers to press the seams together

Back in the car and the visor is now even firmer than stock

The passenger side, even though it just barely sags, will be getting the same fix soon

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Having picked up my 4WS from the panel shop 2 days ago I've finally been able to drive it. It seems to have more "go" than my other SVX which has half the mileage on it.

While at the exhaust shop we found the cats had been removed. The exhaust shop guy was certain that cats will bog a car down.

Anyway, that's what I learned about my car. Also had to jump start it (again), so have also learnt that the battery is shot, so I'd better swap it soon.

And finally what we actually did to my car today, fixed the exhaust so it can pass it's WOF (state safety inspection) tomorrow.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Fitted a replacement battery (stolen from my other car), passed my WOF (state safety inspection) and got it's first wash since repaint. Looks nice. 500km road trip tomorrow.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Took out both seats and steam cleaned the carpets.
Found a $50 dollar bill... not sure if it was mine... but it is now.
Cleaned and lubed the seats.
Replace the bulb in glove box.
Also had the whole car tinted including the windshield with Lumar Air Blue tint.
It is 80% so u can hardly tell it is on there.
I like it. ALOT. It was $400 for the Air Blue.
$150 if I went with regular tint plus $80 for the windshield in the Air Blue.

Also put on the Bontrager RED sway bar a few weeks ago.
VERY NICE MOD!!!!!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Freezing rain followed by 10cm 4" of snow last night convinced me to get the snow tires on. Am running four studded Coopers, so bring it on!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Checked the codes on mine and came up with MAF sensor. Took it off and cleaned, runs fine now. I've had more problems with the MAF on this SVX than any car I've owned
