Hood Struts....

Well, my hood struts are shot... I am probably going to just let them be for as long as possible, but I wanted to atleast get an idea of what my options are for replacement...

Anyone know where to get some new ones and about how much I'd be looking at to replace them?

Anyone know if the ones that alot of the WRX guys use (I think they are Tein hood struts) will work with the SVX??

Thanks

~ Chris

Where would you find such directions? I would suggest the How-To Documents! There is a good write up on after market hood struts and how to mount them located here. Good luck.

I am not sure how you ended up there, but the link is to a pdf file.
The address is: http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/41041.pdf

When you put the cursor over the link, look in the lower left side of your page to see what the link is.

I think you mean a BAD write up there. I found no useful info there. no part numbers worked etc...
nothing useful at all.

I honestly think that it should be deleted. It was just a waste of my time trying to follow it, and led me to find my own road in strut replacement via McMastercarr.com.

Well, when you write up a How-To Document on making struts that is better, send it to me and I will replace it with yours. Thanks for your help.

If nothing else, do NOT use 120 lb. struts! They're far too strong for the task. I've found much success with the 90 lb. ones that I'm using right now.

<Here> is what I did.

If you are interested in the hardware to do the job, let me know?

...or you could always just buy new struts from Subaru. (Yes, they are expensive.)

I used the struts recommended by LetItSnow for my hood, and they worked excellent....

I have taken hundreds of svx WIP pics over the last year and I guess I never took any of the hood strut fix I did. So, basically I am useless

I had taken the printout of the how-to to 4 parts places and nobody at any place could provide me with the struts, but it looks as though I am the only one that had the issue. So the write-up must be good after all and I just had bad luck.

There is some better more up to date info now, so I will try to get a better How-To done in the near future.
