Great history. I never read it before, but as I look over the list from the first Reading meet, I see a name of a friend I never knew belonged to the "club" - I know him from autocross and driver's ed with the Porsche club.

It is an interesting, if not downright touching story. (Almost brought tears to my eyes.)

Believe it or not it would be fairly competative with a Boxster IF you have konis and equal tires on the SVX. For some reason the Boxsters haven't panned out like expected in the autox world. Not sure why. There's a gentleman who I consider a much better driver than I in our region that our race SVX is usually about 3-4 seconds faster then his Boxster. Not knocking on your car in the least just what I've heard and viewed...

Not a chance. 1. Liability (why everybody uses the SCCA or Autoxers inc to run one) 2. No lot as the mall kicked BMSCCA out a few years back. 3. There really isn't enough interest.

I don't want to sound like a Boxster snob (because I really am not), but I do find that a bit hard to believe. At our autocrosses (and I just checked some of the results), the good drivers of Boxsters turn in some of the best times of the events - and our events are open to all cars - we have 'vettes, EVOs, STIs, Hondas, all kinds of cars show up. Even now when I drive my SVX (whichI don't really do much anymore) with the Konis and tires equivalent to those on my P-car, there is still a lot of body roll and imprecision in the steering (as compared to the P).

Still I suspect a good driver could do a lot better in an SVX than I can do in my P-car (I am still a novice).

Ben, that does not surprise me that much. No offense man but when Jesse and I attended my first Auto-X we were racing with several porsches and we were fairly competative even being both of our first times out

The boxster, like any high powered sports car (i.e. Vette, STi, Viper) usually attracts a different breed to begin with so most (definately not all) buyers are more for the "look" of driving it rather than having the skills to handle it properly (hence the reason I tell people to go out and get an H Stock beater car to learn to autox in). It'll be far cheaper, easier to maintain and adjust and you'll actually learn to drive as opposed to learning how far to push the gas pedal. I'd still be in H Stock if the situation wasn't right to get the race car. I wasn't looking. Just bought it cause it was close, cheap and would've made a good parts car for me but when I got it home and started to look at it closer realize that it would be a waste to let a solid car with a decent engine die.
