Reviving the '95 (sitting for 2 years)
My water pump went out on my 1995 SVX L AWD more than two years ago, and due to financial constraints it has sat in my back yard.
I have finally decided to bring her back to life so the first step is replacing the water pump. Of course i am sure i will run into a myrid of other issues. I already know i need new tires new brakes all around. All the fluids need changing. New battery etc. I'm dedicated to completely bringing the car back to its former glory. I have ordered a new water pump with timing belt and pulleys etc. So that will be the first step. I am confident that i can tackle the project as i have worked on this car in the past and have rebuilt a couple of motorcycles over the last couple of years. Are there any hints or tricks that i need to look out for during this replacement? I understand that i will have to disassemble quite a bit but that doesnt concern me. I am however concerned about throwing off the valve timing by removing the belt etc. I figure i could use a paint marker and find a way to mark the cam etc. Any ideas? |

There are timing marks already on the pulleys. There's detailed info if you do a search.

Re: Reviving the '95 (sitting for 2 years)
As long as you're in there, I recommend replacing the front main seal and cam seals, as well. They're inexpensive and you'll kick yourself if they leak later.
I find it easier to do the timing belt if I pull the radiator first. It also gives you a chance to flush the leaves and bugs out of it, and I figure I'm less likely to damage the thing if it's on a shelf instead of inches from turning wrenches.

They are cheap enough and fit properly. Make sure that you remove your oil pump and tighten the phillips screws on the back, use gray sealer, and allow it to dry overnight so that you do not plug/clog the lifters.

Front seal must be a crossover from a 2.5 RS

Re: Reviving the '95 (sitting for 2 years)
Waterpump and timing belt on the way. Seals will be ordered friday. I tried moving the car out of the hole it created in my back yard yesterday to no avail. It looks alot worse than i rememeber. All the aluminum under the hood looks oxidized. paint on the roof is terrible. I'm kicking myself for letting it get this bad...
