Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
We have those here. Don't go there either, it's where the gang bangers hang. Too many Mexican malo hombres, not enough self service car wash places I would pack my 45 semi auto but, I would be arrested for illegal pistol carry in the wonderland of Mexifornia Utah, here I come AKA, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Mostly I just stay home guarding the fort.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
Ok, just got to test drive after getting everything back together.
Here's some of what I found when working on it: One of the rubber intake boots wasn't properly seated last time it was installed. This may have caused some of my problems since it could have been taking in unmetered air where the rubber was folded over. Someone wrote "SVX" on my MAF! Probably not the original... I also found this scratched in the mating face of the MAF: My camshaft is named Rex Those valve covers were dirty!

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
Here's why I was having so much oil leaking everywhere:
Hopefully my dipstick won't pop up anymore! I also have two number "3" injectors! Anyway, it seems to run a bit better. I'll have to wait for a chilly morning to know for sure if the hesitation is completely gone. It seemed a little bit snappier when starting from a stop. At one point, before it was warmed up, I came to a stop and it wasn't idling smoothly and almost died at one point. Dunno what that's about. I probably ought to put some Techron in it now. There's still some smoke coming out when I stop the car, but I think that's just residual oil burning off. I inspected the seals carefully and there were two spots where they seemed slightly damp, but I think it's from oil that was on the motor. I'm going to run it for a day or two and then change the oil and filter.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
I didn't think it was too bad. I borrowed my brother's Gear Ratchet set. That made it a lot easier. I also took a lot of time cleaning everything and I painted a few rusty spots under the hood while I had the battery and airbox out, so that's why it took me so long. It's nice to have another vehicle to drive when working on it

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
1)A folded snorkus is ALOT more common than you would think.
2)The MAF has the correct #22680 AA200 A36-601 R62 3)Its not unusual to have a mix of fuel injector COVERS. 4)Eww!

SVX8588, if you decide to pull the engine be certain to do both the front oil pump seal & the rear crank seal, I did all the front seals, the rear crank seal is worth about a quart of oil per 1k miles, which I didn't change.

Re: Want to do a tuneup. Suggestions?
Would it make any noticeable difference in how the car runs?

The box that my plugs came in said to thread the plug in until the washer touches and then go another 1/2 to 2/3 turn after that. I did put anti-seize on them anyway. When I tightened the bolts for the valve covers, I was able to use a torque wrench on all but 2 on each size. Those I just did by feel.
