Alright, some pictures of my nasty engine...

Alright, so I had that thread about my engine leaking. Well its at the point where I need to order all of the parts I need to reseal. So can someone tell me, I think its obvious, but my valve covers need replaced correct? I can look at the how to for all of the gaskets I need for those, but could someone tell me what I would need to also do my front and rear main seals too? I dont know if they need done or not, but I figure if were doing this crap, might as well get it all. Also, while Im doing these things, are there any other gaskets I should replace? Im trying to get my engine to the point that I dont need to worry about it. Part numbers from subaruparts would be very helpful, as I want to be sure Im getting the correct items.

Thanks -Dennis

Also, my timing belt cover is broken (the rear one) How hard is it to replace that piece? And does anyone have one they could sell to me? (The first pic shows where its broken)

And for the last picture, can someone please tell me what those things are that are spliced into the fuel lines? I touched one and it shot gas all over.... Ive never seen those on another SVX before...

I swear those look like small motorcycle type fuel filters. Whoever put them in there was out to lunch, there aren't even clamps on the lines! Get rid of them, replace the lines with proper ones and fuel injected line clamps.

I have no clue what those things are... I know they aren't on my SVX though...

Should I just get new lines and clamp them in? What kind of lines and clamps do I need? Then how do I disconnect them without shooting gas everywhere? And as for the line thats the furthest back, where does it go? I can see the front two are short, but the back one goes back by the strut tower somewhere...

For the front two you need to use line rated for Fuel Injection, I think it is 5/16" but I'm not sure, just take a section of it to the parts store, they sell it by the foot. You also need to use hose clamps made for fuel injection hose, the two clamps on the stock fuel filter next to the coolant tank are proper FI clamps.

If you want to minimize fuel spray, cut power to the fuel pump while the engine is running. The car will die off after a few seconds once the fuel pressure drops down. You will still get some fuel coming out when you disconnect the hoses so have a rag ready and wear some eye protection. If you want to be real safe have an extinguisher handy.

It would be best to completely replace the lines, but please for now at least get some clamps on there.

I plan on changing them out right now. But as I said, I dont know where the back one goes. I didnt move things around to really look, but could someone give me a guess? As it also has one of these things spliced in... and again, no clamps.

If you have oil all over the engine crossmember, you need to replace the valve cover gaskets (those pictures are indicative of that). If you have spots around the back of the engine area, the rear main is leaking. If you have oil at the bottom of the middle timing cover, the front main gasket is shot as well.

My guess is that you need valve cover gaskets and a rear main gasket replaced.
