How to tell if trans is original?
Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if the transmission is original or not? It's been by using the VIN, Engine Number and then trans number.
Usually (other makes) I have been able to get that information out of some dealers but the Subaru shop I called gave me a flat "no" and hung up Before calling another one I was wondering if this is something that Subaru simply does not do anymore. Eric

Take a look in my locker under
Trans code and build plate for Dave http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/use...svxfiles|28560 The pictures show the number on the transmission behind the starter on the bell housing, and the aluminum build plate in the drivers side inner fender by the shock tower. If the numbers are different, then you know the trans is not original. If they are the same, it only means that that it MIGHT be original.

The VIN is stamped on the transmission housing, but it is really hard to read. I think it is on the right side
