Replacing headliner
Im getting ready to replace my headliner and have an issue. I was looking in the on line manuels and even when I look at the OEM sites my sunroof switch is different then the ones they show. Here is a pic:
Has anyone seen this before? I did not want to start ordering items and not be compatable. Thanks, Adam |

Re: Replacing headliner
Definitely an aftermarket unit, not OEM
Even the trim molding looks different; factory ones are matched to the headliner and more suede-like. Is your car an LS model? Factory switch panel had the sunroof open/close controls in the center, flanked by a map light on each side and a row of four buttons. An very odd photo. Any more pictures? .

Re: Replacing headliner
An interesting question: Is the sunroof panel itself OEM or aftermarket?

Re: Replacing headliner
It may be an OEM - but fitted to a non-sunroof model SVX?
With an aftermarket open/close switch Also the rear mirror mount looks different to mine here in NZ ? |

Re: Replacing headliner
Its an LS. Also the headliner is not solid. There are some solid parts on it but for the most part its fabric stretched acoss. There is also a leather line down the center and the light is tword the back.

Re: Replacing headliner
The sunroof is aftermarket, the headline that is there sounds like they modified the stock non-sunroof headliner.

Re: Replacing headliner
That sucks. Sounds like I have to go to a custom shop and get a new headliner made. Going to be expensive.
Thanks for the info. Cheers, Adam |

Re: Replacing headliner
Is the sunroof glass by any chance?

Re: Replacing headliner
Probably. It's not going to be a piece that would fit in place of the OEM sunroof though. It's just going to be a generic aftermarket moonroof assembly

Re: Replacing headliner
That would still be pretty cool. Unique.

Re: Replacing headliner
There have been quite a few done that have popped up on the forums. Typically aftermarket sunroofs start leaking after a few years. They also sacrifice the structural support of the roof. There is a huge difference with how the OEM sunroof and non sunroof SVX roofs are strengthened.

Re: Replacing headliner
It is a glass roof. No leaking ever. At least in the 12 years I have owned it. It also has a plastic incert that clips in to the glass.

Re: Replacing headliner
i have that EXACT same switch. i wonder if this was something subaru dealerships offered back then? i'm having the same problem with my headliner as well. my sunroof is glass too. i get a few drops of water that leak, but very rarely and only during extremely heavy rains, doesn't bother me. i was going to fix mine by ripping off one whole side and spray-adhesive it back together.

Re: Replacing headliner
Yeah, Not sure but if you have the same switch then maybe it was either the first sunroofs put in or a Subaru specific sunroof.

Re: Replacing headliner
i don't know, because the stock svx sunroofs are supposed to be painted on top and carpeted on the bottom. you and i are fortunate enough to see through them
