Re: 92's hit 160???
I have owned 5 AWD SVX's (2 4.44) and now have a 94 FWD, I have to say the 94 feels like it has a lot more power after it gets going than all of the other ones I have owned. The 0-60 doesn't feel much different but its the passing gear that makes it feel faster for some reason.

Re: 92's hit 160???
When I had mine FWD, it stopped at 135mpg without power mode, then engaged power mode and still stood at that speed no faster.

Re: 92's hit 160???
Well I thought about the top speed thing back in October when I was driving home from OT's house. I was heading back to Pittsburgh on 68 west. I got to about 115 and pussed out. The car felt pretty good at that speed and it was begging me to go faster but I just couldn't.

the svx's brakes are completely worthless at these speeds.
drive safe guys.

Re: 92's hit 160???
I've had a tire go down at 105-110 MPH in the SVX. That wasn't so much fun. Needing both hands just to keep the wheel straight at that sort of speed isn't pleasant. Fortunately it was a deflation from a puncture, not a blow-out.

Re: 92's hit 160???
I would like to see top speed of SVX on salt flats
the fastest i tryed mine was 160kms in heavy rain and head wind. Drove so well. but i slowed down to speed limit since i would had go in load of trouble. Svx felt so much nicer in the wet 2

I think that's a myth. I've never gone that fast in a 94+, though.

I have had my 94 to 160. It took like 10 miles to get there from 100, but it did it.

Your US cars are really, really highly geared in 4 range. That means the engine is working harder to add the extra digits to the top speed. I'll guarantee that anybody who has a 5 speed [or even an auto!] that has the reduced final drive, say 3.90, 4.11 or 4.44, they will all be able to register a higher top speed in the same '92 car with a stock engine. The cars in the States are "limited" by the high gearing and nothing else. Joe

the engine isn't working harder, it's out of it peak powerband. if the shift from 3rd to 4th drops the rpms by enuff the engine isn't making enuff hp to keep pushing. "if a car is running at its top speed, then to double that speed would require eight times the horsepower. More practically, to go just 25 percent faster-say, from 125 mph to a bit over 155 mph-requires double the horsepower." if you know the cd/frontal area of the vehicle and the hp available there's math out there to find the theoretical top speed.

Re: 92's hit 160???

It's this; we are talking specifically about SVXes with different final drive gearing here, not cars in general. Because of this all other factors impinging on the achievable top speed are equal when comparing one SVX with another, as I was doing. The Cd factor is the same. The cross sectional area is the same, which implies the CdA is the same. Weight is the same [mass] and tyre size and tyre drag are the same. Assuming standard state of tune, all SVX engines deliver the same hp, approx 230. In that scenario the variable factor that will affect what top speed can be achieved is the gearing. An SVX with a lower final drive will be able to access the power band at a higher point in the rev range in 4 where more hp is available. This will in turn provide more hp from the same engine to cope with the increasing aerodynamic drag, which is increasing with the square of the velocity. In this way lower gearing in the SVX will lead to a higher terminal velocity, especially if measured both directions over a set distance, like they do at Salt Lake. Joe

Re: 92's hit 160???
That's a good article, very interesting all right.
It was naive of them to imagine 200mph wearing such a wing. It's designed for track downforce, at very high speed it creates drag like a parachute. When the VW Bugatti Veyron is trimmed for high speed runs the rear wing is pulled into the body and the suspension is lowered. What is required is smooth bodywork with carefully controlled airflow under the car. The SVX would be no different. Higher speeds would be achieved with no rear wing and the door mirrors pulled in. If memory serves one of our members Sonny [Sonar] in Sweden has recorded runs of over 160, running with a Porsche 911. [167 mph] I must look it up. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...t=16062&page=3 Anybody trying this should be on an enclosed track, and ideally would be using strongly upgraded brakes. SVX brakes are crap. Joe
