Re: Satin
What about the roof dents?
Looks like a painful job as a whole.

Honestly on the roof I didn't even attempt anything. The way it was deformed was so that pulling pinging and body filler would have not put it into any better condition. It is rolled at the edge and sunk in the middle. Overall the body work is ameteur. The rear quarters were very wavy and like the roof almost beyond repair. This is what I was told by the two shops that took a look at the car after I stripped it down. The remedy proffesional wise would have been two new quarter panels and roof. And I knew they were being honest because the one shop owner I talked to I know as a friend. Thats why I just took on the whole project myself. I wanted to save this svx and new It would not come out perfect. Thats why I took a step out on a limb and went with the weird color scheme. I knew I had nothing to loose Last edited by gwarusee; 11-09-2008 at 10:53 AM. |

Re: Satin
For anyone wanting to do a "flat" paintjob the best product that I've used is 2060 "flexed & flat" clear by PPG. It sprays on wet so you don't get dry or tiger stripes and dulls down when dry but still durable like it was sprayed with regular clears. Just some info I thought i'd pass on.

Re: Satin
Looks great! I still think there are few things on the road with lines to compare to a really straight-bodied SVX.

Re: Satin
Another great thing about the "flexed & Flat" is that you can add normal clearcoat to it to get a more semi-gloss shine if you want. It's super user friendly and easy to use. Yours looks good overall. Spraying the whole car takes A LOT of time and patience.

Re: Satin
How much did all this work cost? Does money just fall out of a tree in your back yard?

Re: Satin
Awesome! Keep us updated as you progress. I'm in the same boat right now. Body work is done, primer is applied, need to sand it down for the final coat. Definitely is a TON of work...and tedious as you said

Re: Satin
I have pretty much hit a standstill for the time being. Its gotten so cold here I am probobly going to wait until spring until the bumpers and trim are painted. I have been following your thread too svx10. You have an even more complicated job to complete than I do! I just used a single stage. A base/ clear coat job will be very hard to get to come out right considering you cannot wet sand out any orange peel. But if you pull it off, the final product and finish quality will look tens times better that a single stage.
