IRIS question
I searched a ton of other IRIS threads, but couldn't find out how to take it off. Do I just need to pull straight towards the front of the motor on the vacuum line/valve to get it out? Does the other end of the vacuum line pull straight down out of the intake? Any clips or bolts to undo? I don't want to break anything, as I just want to check it and put it back on for now. I will order the parts if I need to replace them(found all the part #'s in another thread).
Also, I'm getting bad fuel mileage(230-270 a tank). Couldn't find any info on it, but can the IRIS system cause this? FYI- has new plugs, O2 sensors, air filter, I also cleaned the MAF, TPS, and did the seafoam treatment.

Have new hoses ready to replace when they break, as they are now rock hard and brittle.

Also, can a bad IRIS cause the bad gas mileage I'm getting?

Re: IRIS question
I use 12" long curved hemostats, and gently pull and twist on the rubber hose.
As far as gas milage, I do not believe that the IRIS valve would have that much of an impact. YMMV.

Re: IRIS question
Since you are located in IA, I would suspect that you are using gasahol.
See if you can buy premium gasoline without alcohol and youe milage will go up.

Re: IRIS question
Try figuring up your actual gas mileage as well. Don't go by what you get out of a tank. The SVX gas guage is extremely pessimistic and on my laguna, when it hits the last line at the bottom, still has over 6 gallons left.

Re: IRIS question
Do you mean ethanol? The premium I use is 93 octane with 10% ethanol(highest octane in town other than the race fuel shop, and only place with 93). There is one other place in town that has 91 octane premium without ethanol. I thought the ethanol blend was the cluprit at first, so I was using the non-ethanol 91 octane fuel for about a month, and I noticed no difference in gas mileage. So I switched back to the 93 ethanol blend. All other gas stations in town (about 40 of them) don't even have premium, but they have Super Unleaded 91, but most of it is 10% ethonal blend too.

Re: IRIS question
I was estimating my gas mileage. I get about 200-220 miles on a tank before the gas gauge comes on. Then when I fill it, there is still about 2-3 gallons left. That's how I came up with the 220-270 miles estimate.

Re: IRIS question
Alright, just makin sure. There have many people in the past who only go by how many miles they get before it "appears" to be close to being empty so I just wanted to confirm. As long as the gas is 91 octane or above, it is what the engine is supposed to use. I must say that it seems very odd for it to be getting that poor of mileage. That's about what I can get out of my silver with no high clutch left in the auto.

I was just going through the receipts from the previous owner. He told me he had a new fuel filter put in. I never really checked it out to see for sure, just took his word. After looking at it last night, it doesn't appear to be new and I couldn't find the receipt for it. I think I'll just go buy a new fuel filter this weekend and see if that helps out at all.

Re: IRIS question
Whatever happened to simply filling up the tank, driving 300 or so miles, fill it up again, and see how many gallons it took to refill it. might be better than trying to guess how many miles you get to the gallon...
