Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...

Great information in this thread! Thanks for a fact filled read and good luck at getting back into rally form.

I hope to be able to post some additional information on subframe fitment shortly. I come from the land of 2002+ turbo models here in the US, but finally am going retro with a SVX. I have tons of WRX parts and should be picking up a SVX shortly. Once I have the car I will start to test fit newer Impreza parts to see what else fits.

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...

Thanks! I made my purchase last night and will be picking up my 94 Laguna Blue SVX tomorrow!

Shortly there after I will see if my STi subframe, trailing arms, transmission, rear end, axles, front hubs, WRX brakes and anything else I can find laying around in my garage will fit.

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...

Im thinking of getting some custom front and rear subframes if wrx ones dont work???

Im going to go do some engineering courses this year and hoping I will get some extra skills to build my own custom front and rear subframes

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...

Engine and new 5 speed gearbox are back in. Cranked fine, but then remembered that I needed to modify the CAS to get it to fire. Job for the weekend.

Chasing down an Outback tailshaft (driveshaft in the US), then may not end up modifying the shifter. Have spoken to Dessertrunner who uses the normal 5 speed shifter, and has moved it forward in the tunnel. The six speed shifter was a bit close for me, so that might work out well.

Have received the Small car exhaust header flanges and now starting to order parts to make the headers with.

Looking at ITB options. I have previously put a set of motorbike ITB's on another car. I'm exploring the merits of that again, but under bonnet real estate for the front two cylinders is only 160mm from the head face. Not huge options there.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...

ITB update

Have mounted up the various parts to a spare dead engine to work out linkages etc.

Not all good...but mostly.

The EG33 is offset...so in doing the linkages, not only am I dealing with the full width of the crankcase, but also slightly offset cylinders etc.

What are people's thoughts about the best way to do a linkage for them?

My first thought is in the following

The black circle would be mounted on the case some how...with a throttle quadrant mounted to it.

Are there any funky things I need to think about to ensure I get the full 90 degree (probably actually 87) that I need for full throttle travel evenly on both sides?

Ideas before May would be great!!

I would bend "L" shapes in the linkages right where they attach to your black circle. That way they can rotate 90* and won't come into contact with the center pin that the mechanism rotates on.

Here's a quickie I whipped up in paint.

I don't know why that wouldn't work. Wouldn't be any harder to do, just make sure they're even.

That said, it seems like there should be a better way to open them. That won't exactly be a linear relationship from one point of rotation to the other. Imagine the center circle rotating... The closer it gets to the full 90*, the less its actually going to be pulling on the linkage.

Or will how the bracket is mounted on the TB cancel it out, since their rotational movements will in essence be "opposites" of eachother?

Hopefully this makes sense and I'm not just spouting out garbage. If it were me, I'd just make it and see how it works! Worst case... it doesn't work, and you do something else!

At any rate good luck!
