What? What? And there's a "good" reason why you won't be driving your own car? -Bill

Woo Hoo!
Just returned from a long weekend after the Subaru Challenge at the SIA plant in Lafayette and I represented us well The old girl put down a 3rd place finish in STX and got me a plaque. I was less than 0.200 out of 1st place Needless to say I was the ONLY
1) SVX 2) Six cylinder powered Subaru I was also the heaviest car and ran on my RE-070's. Drove down the night before, unloaded the car, pumped up the tires and pulled it out. The car easily could have won the STX class but for the n00b behind the wheel Had a GREAT time and will definitely go to the next Challenge event. Todd

Thanks Bill! No FP cars and 4 ESP cars showed up. I ranked 19th on Index However, while there were some very good drivers, there was not my usual level of competition within my region. Still, a thrid place finish is OK by me.
Both harnesses installed but only one seat due to bracket issues. I ordered a set of 245/40-17 (max. width allowed in STX) Bridgestone RE-01r's tonight for my next event. Now I've got to get my tube/rod bender set up so I can make me a new rear bar. Todd

Todd, yeah, join the "installing race seats in an SVX is a pain" club I ended up just using the piece of SS plate, as the rectangular tubing spaced the seat up too far (fine in normal driving -- horrible when wearing a helmet ) 3/4" OD 4130 works nicely for the rear bar kinda makes the stock bar look wimpy, doesn't it -Bill

Yup, the mount I ended up using was the stock seat rail with the ends slotted to accept the different seat rail CL on the Recaros. Works fine, but regardless of where the seat is located on the rail, with my helmet I am wedged in place. I typically bring my seat forward until my knees are on the dashboard which just makes things worse. I will be getting a set of seat rails to Wedge Engineering in the next two weeks for a proper set of mounting rails BTW.
On the the sway bar. What specs did you heat treat the 4130 to or did you use it in its as delivered state? Do you like 3/4" or would you go larger now that you've had it in place for a while? Todd

Since we used a torch to bend the 4130, I had to have it heat treated to bring it back up to strength. I believe (and I'll have to find my paperwork to be sure) I had the heat treating shop bring it back up to 120 ksi (?). I do remember that the final figure was the max the shop was able to bring it up to. As far as the diameter, I wouldn't go any larger. What you might want to do is make the "arms" another 1-2" longer so you can have three attachment points. I've noticed a definite difference going from the "stock" location to my second point, which provides an extra inch in "arm" length. -Bill

Todd,
Congrats on your showing at the Challenge! Way to go! Sounds like you are enjoying it - the autocross bug has bitten!! And you have, I notice, been infected by the mod king (SVXRIDE) .......... That's fun too!! I plan to be back autocrossing by Sep - the Challenge at Ripkin ..... Hey Bill, you sure missed a good meet / autocross in Cumberland last weekend - you too, Todd!! Harry
