Tranny questions...a couple of em

Question #1) Sometimes it slips between 2nd & 3rd, allowing a bit of a rev-up but not that much, and only when under low load. Doesn't seem to happen when accelerating even moderately. Can this be improved by the "band adjustment"?

Question #2) When the OD or torque converter engages (this only happens after several miles of driving to warm up the tranny), I hear a distinct "groaning" or growling noise. Seems to work fine, but the noise is worrisome.
