build my own s/c
ive been looking at my leaf blower, its a 200mph one and gas.. its way of spooling up air is exactly like a turbo... im going to buy a 225mph electric one, shave it down, put a air filter on and hook it up to my battery, probably a yellow top... i will tell anyone if it works... , any precations i should keep in mind?? if i do... just maby get 5 or more psi.. then will i have to get an impreza f.p.r so it will mix better??

but anyway, can you really get it small enough to cram it under the hood? I don't want to see you waste your money but I'm also sortof curious to see what you end up with. You may need a high amp inverter for that idea. If it doesn't work it'll be hilarious to try to return the blower all hacked up

Seriously man, no offense but your ideas are off the wall, what's your reasoning/theory behind all of this?

c'mon guys.
It may seam ridiculous, but it is trial and error and the things you learn along the way. Please don't take offense Myxalplyx, but I'm gonna use you as an example. He had a rough start with his ideas, but he ended up with a design that showed some real impressive gains in the end.

the thing i do not understand about this whole setup is that everything else is stock, namely the MAF, the MAF can only read a certain amount of air volume so pushes more through will not provide any benefit, not to mention the fuel is limited as well and the stock cams which hinder breathability...

Hey Cruisen, think I spoted your car in Puyallup the other day.
Does your have a Supra spoiler on the rear deck? Post some pics of your SVX, I think everyone else has.

Car isn't running, it's only building pressure as the air is not flowing anyway but against the throttle plate. You're missing the whole big flaw in this......boost pressure means absolutely nothing if you don't have the flow to back it. Leaf blowers cannot provide both enough flow and positive pressure to be of any use on any car engine, especially one of 3.3L Go ahead and try it if you want. I'm just letting you know what the outcome will be. |

too late
yeah, kinda too late to return it... i meen i could but if they took it apart... they would say WTF!!!!!! well does the MAF send anymore fuel if it sees an increase in air going in?

Amps to Watts = A x V 12 x 12 = 144 144/746 = ~.19 HP Rough math and conversion.....but .19hp is not going to cut it Even if you took that same motor and bumped it to 36V(armature and field windings would never last) you'd only get to about 1/2 hp. Then you run into charging issues, etc. While turbochargers do not use horsepower from the rotating mass of the engine..they DO require horsepower to spin the CHRA and compress air. They just extract that power from the wasted energy of the exhaust flow and heat. Typical SC's required anywhere from 10-150hp to drive(drag blowers upwards of 400+hp to work at WOT). Your typical turbocharger, pending size and CFM ebing compressed, takes 10-70 hp to drive. Do you see where I'm going with this?? Your $100 mark isn't enough, unless you're getting batteries for free, and lots of them........ |
