AWD dilemma

I have read many of the postings about the Duty C Solenoid, and im thinking this isnt my problem... under normal driving it feels perfectly normal. under hard acceleration from a stop you feel a pulling from the front like any FWD car, followed a few seconds later by an abrupt pushing from the rear when the AWD kicks in.. on wet pavement its much more apparent and forceful. I have put in the FWD fuse which solved the problem for now. my issue is that i bought my second SVX to have an AWD car... i see no point in owning a FWD SVX... if AWD doesnt work i may as well buy a freakin beige Camry. if anyone has some input i would appreciate it my mechanic is apprehensive about delving into this... he just changed the tranny filter and by the looks of it had never been changed before.. does the filter have anything to do with this??? i am a shade tree mechanic but trannies are a mystery to me as long as i can put the car in D and it goes forward im happy... Help please. Sarcasm is appreciated Snobbery and Smug responses may be kept to yourself...

Thank you.

Jeremy
