I think this deserves a reply as it is a topic I have previously yet am still interested in discussing seriously (and also I don't want her to think she's been ignored)

There is another person with this belief. His name is Jack Thompson and he is notorious within the video gamer circles.

This man devotes his life to "exposing" violence in video games as the harbinger of doom for today's youth.

Well, it only takes one rebuttal to prove, yes prove this theory of violent video games being horrible, is a wash.

Bad kids have existed looooong before video entertainment. Violent video games, and movies, and music are popular because these tendencies are natural in humans, as they are natural in most living creatures.

You see some bad kids? Blame hormones. That's ok. Blame other bad kids. That's ok. Blame the parents. That is more than ok. Don't blame media. The media exists because of the nature, not the other way around.

You might argue that say a violent musical piece sets free dormant violent intentions, and you could be right. You could also say an angry parent, or friend, or random person can do the same thing with mere words and actions that aren't even set to a catchy beat. Again, the point remains these angry and rebellious feelings were pre-existent.

Violent media is simply an easy scapegoat, and a lot of people need it. I need to be able to blast people online with an M4A1 Carbine. I feel great when I do it. Sometimes I get angry when they do it to me. Matter of fact I get angry very easily when I get shot up. Does it make me want to go shoot things up for real? No. I'd never think of it. Well, I did shoot some metal targets (backed by a huge mound of dirt) recently but they didn't complain much. (:
