It lives!
My SVX, that is.
So, my story to-date on getting my car back on the road. Last night I got off work a little early and headed home. Once I had my wife and kids in tow, we headed off to Sears Auto to get my car. It sure was nice to see my car sitting in the parking lot As it turned out, Sears replaced both rear wheel bearings since they'd made an error and replaced the left rear first instead of the right rear. As a result, they covered the cost of the right rear wheel bearing and replaced that too. Score! So anyway... I get out, get in and do a few circuits of the parking lot. All quiet in the rear... ahhhhhh!!!! Nice! OK... now that's annoying; now that I don't have the howl of bearings I can hear all the dash components rattling that need to be tightened down. Sigh! So I drive her home. Take her out on Highway 94 for a quick run up to 55mph for a few miles... smooth as always (though my muffler is still rattling on acceleration... that's why I have the spare in my garage). The Check Engine light is on... but I already know that's the cam position sensor that's sitting on my desk at home. I'll do that this weekend. I get home and get out of the car... the exhaust STINKS! Remember I mentioned the burned coffee smell? Well, it's become a burned popcorn smell... and it's pretty rank when I've been driving the car a little hard (like 55mph up 94). Thankfully the water pouring out of the exhaust seems to have dissipated now I've been driving the car for a bit... but now with the engine off there appears to be a slight wisp of smoke rising from both tailpipes... and it smells like burned popcorn. Anyone any thoughts here? I'm thinking either dirt accumulation or something crawled up inside my muffler and died during the winter (or possibly a mouse nest?). It doesn't smell like anything I'd find from a car usually... it really does smell like popcorn that's been in the microwave too long. No, I don't think my kids jammed popcorn up there during storage Anyway... she's parked in my driveway for now... checklist of things still to do;
That last one will probably end up waiting until next year. The body problems are just that; cosmetic... but it'll be NICE to have a running SVX again. Stay tuned... and any pointers on what to look for on the burning popcorn? |

that smell is probobly due to the cam position sensor... If the ECU is sending spark late... comnustion leaves the cylinder through the valves and straight into the exhaust(Really freakin hot) Thus burning anything on the exhaust off..
