92 SVX's 4WD?
Why does my insurance say that my car is 4WD? They said 92's are 4WD and other models are AWD and if i were to get a newer AWD model my insurance would be $60 more... i have driven both and i didnt notice a difference in handling or anything.

Because your insurance company is run by people that are idiots. And by idiots I mean people that'll just say anything on the specs of a car.

4WD, AWD, quattro, all-road,........different names, same basic concept. The SVX is AWD, but I've also seen it described as having "full time 4WD". 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Tell your insurance company to smarten up Your AWD system is identical to the AWD system in any other SVX.

Any time you have two indentical cars built in different years the newer one (since it is worth more) will cost more to insure.

And you're complaining why??
I also wouldn't say that AWD = 4WD. I would say the Justy was 4WD since the center differential doen't slip. You're either at 100/0 or 50/50 distribution.

AWD and 4WD as we usually think of them are not the same

Comprehensive Insurance is based on the value of the car. The 96 simply has more value than the 92. More value = more expensive to insure. Dave |

Right. That's why I referred to them as having the same basic concept (all four wheels being driven). They aren't indentical, just similar. Dave |

All wheel drive has some sort of a diferential in the middle allowing all 4 wheels to stay engaged all the time, 4WD has no diff so it can only be used on low traction roads.
Also, a 1988 BMW 325is with 170hp is significantly more expensive to insure than a 1997 M3 with 250hp... Go figure

the one w/ dual air bags sgould be cheaper. this is because even w/ liability, there is medical coverage up to a certain amount. there is less risk in a car w/ airbags cuz they are supposed to help in the event of an accident.
