Re: Scratching my head with this wheel bearing
If anyone reading this is considering swapping rear hubs (dunno if they're different from the front hubs), there are currently 6 left in the US.

Re: Scratching my head with this wheel bearing
I ordered:
28016PA010 28015AA070 28015AA080 28044AA001 In addition, I got 28052PA010 for the actual hub. The parts dealer didn't think I needed more to replace the bearings and hubs (I ordered two sets). OT summed it up in a thread, I took the info from that

Re: Scratching my head with this wheel bearing
I get 28035AA010 for the snap ring part number, not 28044AA001. Not sure where the discrepancy is coming from.

Re: Scratching my head with this wheel bearing
I would like to thank Tom and Nate for taking my car for a test run at Reading. I am ordering parts, including a hub, for the bearing replacement.
Because of my concerns about incompatible grease I contacted the folks at Timken, the supplier of my prematurely failing bearing. Here is her reponse: "Hello Anthony, Some bearings do only come packed with sufficient grease for startup operation, but those are limited to Unit bearings on rear axles. If you are worried about the amount of grease that comes supplied with the bearing, you would be surprised at how little of grease is suppose to be applied according to lubricant testing. Remember more is not always better, too much grease can cause churning and pressure build up that will cause the grease to purge and appear that the seals are not working properly. If you are worried about the grease in the bearing and want to run the best lubricant you can, you should remove the old grease and replace with your preference completely, versus diluting the supplied grease with a different amount. Have a good weekend. Sally McKiney | Sr. Catalog Analyst - Auto & Heavy Duty Aftermarket Group| The Timken Company" So it sounds like Timken packs their bearings with decent grease and enough of it to just install them directly. Was the grease issue just with bearing purchased from Subaru? My mechanic said that they just install the bearings with the supplied grease unless otherwise instructed. I din't ask him if that was aftermarket bearings like Timken or all bearings including the ones supplied by Subaru. She did confirm that the grease in the bearings should be cleaned out if re-packing with better grease. Thoughts? Also, my mechanic thought there might be a left hub and a right hub but the parts list and diagram implies that there is one hub for both sides. Is there one or two?
