Calgon...take me away
OK..here's the deal. 92 svx. Started getting this grinding noise from the front driveline and wheels. I've replaced halfshafts, brake calipers, breaks, rotors. When I attempt to drive the car, it's almost like the brakes are stuck. When it does move I get this clank clank sound and the wheels jerk like something is holding them. The car will just move a couple of inches. I can't see anything that is hitting on anything but I'm about to take a big hammer and knock myself in the head....any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks....pat

From the description it sounds like a front differential going.

great
joy...oh..joy. ..don't know Subaru's at all....is the differential and transmission one part? Is it possible for me to open the diff up and check the gears inside by removing the cover. I've been searching the internet and have not seen any front differential..lots of info about the rear diff which I've already replaced along with the rear bearings....this is frustrating as hell....not to mention expensive.....thanks,pat

The front diff and the transmission are the same part. You can rebuild it, if you know what your doing and have the tools/parts, but personally i don't, and would be considering a 5mt or 6mt swap, or i fyou don't like manual transmission, you can do a 4.44 swpa, i think they start around $800, which isn't bad, changes the ratio from 3.564ish to 4.44, you get much better acceleartion, but lower top end.
