Re: wow... only in canada
Maybe a tad ambitious. Definitely a clean low mileage car, but $11k?

Re: wow... only in canada
Ummm.. Well, at less than 80,000 miles, what's more important is WHY the mileage is so low. If it's because it sat in the garage, was driven only for pleasure, and NEVER saw salt, then it's not that unreasonable. The price was the asking price, not necessarily the owner's bottom line.
In the "salt" regions of Canada, and also the "salt" regions of the U.S. SVXs' are now more and more falling into one of two categories; They are either daily, winter included, drivers, or, they were garage queens, driven in good weather for fun. The ones that have seen twenty years of salt are a significantly higher challenge to keep viable, if not impossible, especially for the long term. I could show you pictures from the '96 "donor car" I just bought, especially the shots from underneath, and shots where the doors had rusted through to the point that you can see inside from outside.. It was a daily driver that has seen eighteen years of salt from the snow belt of Ontario. Then, I could show you the same pictures from my '97 that came from a salt free area. You wouldn't believe that these two cars are basically the same age and mileage. The comment from the mechanic that did the safety check on mine was " I can't believe it, it looks like it's brand new". In the salt belts of North America, it often boils down to three choices. Buy a daily driver and deal with the corrosion issues. Pony up big bucks for a low mileage garage queen. Get one, sight unseen, no test drive, no guarantee from eBay or Kijiji and pay the shipping and pray. Hard. And a for a lot of people, that kind of purchase is way outside their comfort zone, especially if the vehicle is coming from another country. There are more people ( and more SVXs ) in California than there are in Canada, and most of them have never seen salt. There's a much wider selection, and you can judge their value more based on mechanical condition, mileage, options, etc. After a six month search, I shipped both of mine half way across a continent to get a "keeper", simply because it came from outside the salt zone. I "clicked" with the seller. It was obvious he was selling his baby, and wanted her ( and her sister, my '94) to go to a good home as a pair. I still can't believe how lucky I got. |
