eg33 and megasquirt

I am going an EG33 swap into a 1998 legacy wagon and I am planning on running everything with megasquirt version 2 or possible 3 if I feel like dropping the extra dough. I already have an engine, ecu, and megasquirt harness.
I've been doing a bunch of research at rs25.com but as soon as I asked ECU questions they sent me straight back to you guys.

Big this I want to work on is OBDII readiness and possibly CEL functioning. However I am not using any SVX wiring so some of that I might be going alone.

Anyways who has any experience at all with any of this and would be willing to help me out?

I know NYS would have a fit if you were backdating an engine on such a "modern" car. If it's the same where you are, I don't know that you stand a chance of getting this swap done to meet spec.

How would they know the motor isnt a 97? and already obdII compliant?
If he is running a stand alone controller could he not piggy back his ecu to meet emissions?

go on....

yeah I sort of need an example on piggy backing, I have a 2.2L ecu now and a 3.3 engine and megasquirt. I feel like I can do what I want with what I have just need to see it done

Unfortunately I know nothing about piggy backing I just read ppl have done that to keep the emissions happy, the stock 2.2 would not do anything to control the engine, the megasquirt would take care of all that then just feed the signals to the 2.2 to fool it into believing all was working.

Well, they could know it's a '97, but that's still backdating from a '98.

I don't think an EJ22 ECU will do much with an EG33...

Re: eg33 and megasquirt

How much does a megasquirt cost? I can't imagine it would be cheaper than just getting a '97 or '96 EG33 ecu. What's your reasoning here?

I hope that's so! It puts a big damper on what we can do. I'll stick to older cars for fun.
