Thanks for the info, Tom
You are, as always, an invaluable resource. *EDIT* - I take what I said back about wanting cross-drilled rotors. Here's a quote from StopTech (Yes, Diana, you win. I got to reading it) DRILLED VS SLOTTED ROTORS For many years most racing rotors were drilled. There were two reasons - the holes gave the "fireband" boundary layer of gasses and particulate matter someplace to go and the edges of the holes gave the pad a better "bite". Unfortunately the drilled holes also reduced the thermal capacity of the discs and served as very effective "stress raisers" significantly decreasing disc life. Improvements in friction materials have pretty much made the drilled rotor a thing of the past in racing. Most racing rotors currently feature a series of tangential slots or channels that serve the same purpose without the attendant disadvantages. Quote:
Alright, Di, so warped disks aren't a true term. I know this, but it's so commonly accepted, that I still use it to describe the problem and the irritation. It is actually a very poor combination of cheap rotors and crappy pads, mixed with being used too heavily too many times when I was gone at school (by my brother), and a very heavy car. I have, as shown on that sight, Figure 3 of the first paragraph, heat distortion of the rotors induced by the pads.
