I just opened the box to check out the pads, rotors and lines.
The pads are PBR semi-metallic performance brake pads made in Australia. Fronts are part #D438RM, and the rears are D1186RM. I have used Race Concepts pads on my SC Claret for two or three years! No brake dust, great stopping, no noise. Some of you have tried my brakes, and SMOKED my tires stopping! I certainly have no complaints. (Except for smoking my tires.) The rotors are plated, dimpled, and slotted, as promised. The stainless steel lines have metal mounting tabs, not plastic. It looks like a great deal to me.

I'm not in the market right now but I will be soon due to my newly-replaced brakes starting to rust and dust... in SoCal...
But would it be possible to get slotted-only rotors? I've looked all over and can't seem to find rotors that are only slotted. Unless these plated/dimpled/slotted ones really are a lot better and last longer..? |

It appears that Axxis and PBR are the same.

rotors only option?
Is there a rotors only option? I already have stailess braided lines and I'm pretty much an Akebono ACT convert, so the rotors are all I really need.
If not, I'll probably take the full package anyway and then offer the lines and pads cheap to the SVX members on the boards. |

Have a look at the ART link in my earlier post #27 in this thread. They are slotted only. They also sell the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic Pads.

I've never heard of "dimpling" before... anyone have any info on it?
I would think it would have only draw-backs compared to cross drilled, because just like the slots, it will dissapear when the rotors become worn a certain amount. Thats the problem with my current rotors, they're so worn, the slots are all but gone... That and they're warped Craig

It is a place for hot gasses to escape to under hard/hot braking. Plus they look cool! I just measured the dimples on a set of front rotors and they are MORE than 0.15 " deep. The slot on the same rotor is slightly more than 0.04" deep. Craig, if your rotor slots are about to disapear, you have to change your rotors, as your last/current rotors are worn too thin. The standard discard thickness for the fronts are 1.024", and 0.335" for the rears. The thinner the rotors the easier they are to warp and overheat. There has to be enough mass to absorb the heat when you transferring rolling energy into heat energy. Tom

I'm no expert on brakes, but I assume the guys at StopTech are. Here is a very interesting article on The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System. There is LOTS of useful and just interesting information on their site in the "Technical Information --> Technical White Papers" section of their website, including proper bed-in procedures.

I can put the pads on the shelf, and finally install the SS lines on Nicks SVX.

I spoke with Bein today, and its just fine. The plating is to keep the non-contact areas shiny and pretty, and not rusty.
