Phenolic Spacers for the SVX
Not sure if everyone on the board is aware that the pre-production phenolic spacer kits are now available from Outlaw Engineering. I received mine in the mail today!
The kit I purchased for the upper intake manifold and throttle body spacers ran me $72 + $6 S&H. Gaskets are not included in the pre-production kit, but you can pick them up from your Subaru dealer for ~$25. However, the kit does come with all the necessary bolts to install the spacers along with 2 Outlaw stickers. Everything was carefully packaged in bubble wrap. Svxfiles was the pioneer/guinea pig who installed the prototype kit on his '92 and outlined the installation process on page 4 of this thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...5&pagenumber=4 Those interested in obtaining a kit can e-mail Sean Morgan at sales@outlawengineering.com. They do accept Paypal. -Chike

Hey Chike
Do you mind explaining real quick what this mod does for us less- than-mechanical folks. Thanks man! |

The slightly longer intake path will also improve low end torque. Typical dyno gains I've seen on Outlaw's website for NA cars are ~5-6 hp and 5-6 ft-lbs at the wheels. -Chike

Gasket List for Outlaw Engineering's Phenolic Spacers
Chike, svxfiles and alltrac. Please check out the following list and confirm that these are the correct gaskets. I compiled this list from www.subaruparts.com and the total came to about $50 before shipping.
16175AA091 Qty. 2 -- Throttle Chamber Gasket 14075AA021 Qty. 4 -- Intake Manifold Gasket (upper one) 14719AA010 Qty. 2 -- EGR pipe Gasket (pipe that gets bent with the jig) I wasn't sure from svxfiles' install description if the EGR gaskets are required.

Yes those are all the right numbers. The egr gaskets are expensive.

Nate, it depends on how you stretch the tube.
If you do not disconnect the tube, and just stretch it in place, (as in lift up the intake manifold with an engine crane), then you do not need the egr tube gaskets. If you remove the tube for a more accurete stretch, then you will need the egr gaskets. I have used both methods, and they both work. When we do Chi ke's or Bill's car we will give a "better studied" report.

Cool....can't wait to see the report. I love mods that can be done for around 100 bucks.

I haven't as this mod still isn't installed on my car yet (will be next weekend), but Tom (svxfiles) did. Before doing the mod, his manifold would get up ~160* in temp. After the mod, I think his manifold was around 10* above ambient... It's a very noticeable difference. I was at Tom's place two weekends ago installing my rebuilt axles and after we were finished working on my car, I took his car for a 10 minute spin to check out how the installed phenolic spacers felt, and when I came back I left his car idling. I then backed my car out of the shop and brought it around to let it idle and come up to temp. After my car had been idling for ~10 minutes (and Tom's had been running for about 20 at this point), my manifold was almost too hot to touch, while Tom's was still nice and cool to the touch. Simply amazing! -Chike
