Rear Diff Bushings
Hey Everyone
I'm being told that my rear diff bushings are cracked. Was just wondering whether the whole diff or crossmember needs to be removed to fix that up or whether it can be done another way?? Unfortunately, I need this to be fixed in order to pass for registration and the registration is on the 30th of March Jordan. |

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
You have to remove the diff to have room to remove the diff bushings.
Usually I use a sawzall and make wo cuts through the outer metal of the bushing, about an inch apart, and then the rest of the metal pries out easily.

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
I didn't remove the diff when I did mine. I only pulled the muffler and did the dual-cut sawzall technique on each bushing.
It's nerve-wracking to say something different than any given Tom would around here!

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
Thanks for the tip, is it worth replacing a few other bits and pieces while having all that apart, like upper stoppers and lower stoppers and just general bits and pieces??

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
I'd just do the 15 Minute Mod.

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
Yeah im gonna work out the 15 minute mod story as well.
Do you think this would explain my problem where when I press the gas from stand still I hear this noise, coming from under the car, it's like a fast cluck cluck cluck but only happens from stand still for a couple of seconds, sounds like it's coming from under the centre console. No it's not CVs No it's not transmission mounts, because they have just been changed. No it's not heat shields but not 100% sure There are no codes. Thanks for all the responses so far I wanna come to the conclusion of this noise!! it's been doing it for 6 months and I haven't fixed it!! Jordan |

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
a friend with an auto liberty has exactly the same sound occuring with his car and mine is the same too,we seem to think its the centre bearing/mount on the tailshaft its really hard to replicate while not driving

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
And if you have a high frequency vibration as well definately check the driveshaft somewhat like you have a tire out of balance.
How would I know that??? Ask OT

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
I'm not sure if you guys use the same lingo but are the U joints like saddles?
If I'm driving at speeds like around 80m/h would I know if the driveshaft was out of balance?? Thanks, Jordan. |

Re: Rear Diff Bushings
My SVX does the same thing the clunk cluunk clunk noise ...
I think i have a stuffed diff on my one. the seals had gone and leaked the fuild out. you could also smell diff oil badly round the back. I went to change my diff today and i suddenly relised my rear diff bushings have gone too. like 1 has No rubber... and the other has a bit of rubber sitting in it. so i have another item to fix. yay
