Time to do the timing belt/water pump!
Any comments about the kit they are selling on ebay?
Belt, idlers, tensioner, water pump, W/P gasket for around $300. Too good to be true? I can't find any thread in here about it... Someone tried it? Thanks! Last edited by Gloomy; 04-16-2011 at 04:59 PM. |

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
From what I hear, it is a good deal and some members have bought them and they were good.

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
Yep used the eBay timing belt kit on my car, I believe from PCI. All good here. I bought the water pump from Subaru though on advice from Tom (I think) stating that the Prestone/eBay pumps weren't as good.

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
Good to know!
Thanks, I think I'll buy it since it should be way cheaper than Subaru. Can anyone compare OEM subaru vs that Ebay kit pricewise? Crazy Pilot, is the Subaru waterpump very expensive? Thank you! |

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
What is the recommended mileage for changing the timing belt and water pump? My mechanic is telling me 105k. I thought I had read somewhere 60k? Which seems really low. Without taking the cover off to look at the belt itself...I was just wondering what they recommended. Thanks- How much does a water pump from subaru go for? Subaruparts for the belt and kit w/tensioners the best route to go?

Your Subaru Dealership must be asking around $150 for the same pump if it's what you are wondering. As for myself, I was lucky enough to find this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT Good luck! Last edited by Gloomy; 04-16-2011 at 05:03 PM. |

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
I was pleased with the timing belt and the pulleys, but I was not pleased with the Prestone water pump. The thermostat didn't fit very well in the housing. I made it work, but had a one been available at my dealer, I would have paid for an OEM pump even though I had the Prestone one already.
That being said, I made the pump work, and haven't looked back since. Clarke |

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
I just checked e-bay and found several timing belt/water pump kits
using GMB water pumps. Are they any good?

Re: Time to do the timming belt/water pump!
A buddy of mine bought a Legacy wagon that supposedly had a blown head gasket (turned out to be a plugged radiator), but after I did the timing belt and a new radiator for him, it still overheated. Turned out the new water pump the previous owner had installed, didn't pump, and it was a GMB which are usually pretty good.
I'm not a huge fan of aftermarket water pumps, I've seen them come apart and go through the timing cover (and they make a HUGE mess on a twin cam 2.5!) The timing belt interval on the SVX is 60,000 miles I THINK (might be 90,000) but it is most definitely not 105,000, that is for the California spec cars after like 1997 I think, and the only difference is the belt.
