Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Scoped out for alternator wiring mods. Noted that over the winter a critter of some type (field mouse) found the alternator +rubber boot tasty. See attached photo. New one on order.

Yummy. They got my Garden tractor spark plug wire last year.
I put 3 coats of wax on my car.

The part number for those who may need one is 81034AA000, especially if doing the alternator wiring mod, or it is just brittle or torn.

About $6.00.

MY SVX German (GLASS!) headlights were received in Scotland today. Will pick them up in August. (The German ebay seller will not ship to the outside of most of the EU).

Could you tell me how much you paid for them? I'm going to Germany this year and thought I'd explore getting some.

re the Glass headlights from Germany:

Shipped to Scotland the pair was 225 euro.
Used XETrade to pay for them. Current German ebay prices show about 180 euro for a pair.

I bought from Maschinen und Autoteilehandel Beßler [info@kfzteile-harz.de]after seeing them on ebay Germany. Same place I got my clear corners. They handle English very well. You can't pay or buy on German ebay as Ebay will not allow payment from the US assuming they would be shipped to the US also. So keep fingers crossed and work outside of ebay protections.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Found 2 places within 10 miles of me that sell ethanol-free gasoline. One sells 91.5 octane ethanol-free at the retail pump. A quick test from my fuel testing kit revealed no ethanol or water in the sample.

The other place sells 94 octane ethanol-free, but does not have a retail pump. The sell it pumped into the customer's 1 gallon or 5 gallon containers. No big deal.
Sold for farm equipment, boats and aircraft and the street rod clubs.

Price is about $4.18 per gallon

You can find a list of ethanol-free stations in your state by clicking HERE

Her is what testing results look like:

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Ordered a vehicle history package for the SVX. Turns out my car has had 4 previous owners (not including dealerships). I'm trying to see if I can locate any of these folks and learn some of my car's history. Unfortunately it appears that the original owner passed away in 2011. She has an uncommon hyphenated name so I'm reasonably certain it's her. I don't think I should contact her kids... Both are on Facebook.

Owner 1: Aug 92-Nov 95
Owner 2: Nov 95-June 03 (Almost 8 years! Need to beat this guy!)
Owner 3: June 03-Nov 03 (obviously didn't enjoy the car too much)
Owner 4: Nov 03-March 06

At this point the car bounced around a couple dealers for a year before I bought it in March 2007.

I wonder if any of them would be curious to learn what became of their SVX...

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finally did our own P/S reservoir Viton oring mod. Our car had the Torx headed fasteners and our T40 bit did not work. Loosened them with the worst/best tool (Vice grips) and also confirmed the old oring was pretty well squished and hardened into a triangular cross section. Replaced the oring, the fluid and the Torx headed bolts with socket headed cap screws and a washer each. The cap screws we used were steel 60 mm M8 1.25(?) pitch. Can't fathom why Subaru used such funky bolts there in the first place. Now to get at the flasher relay to install an LED friendly one.
