Re: possible dying front diff ???
Have you tried Lubegard yet? It loosened up a binding center diff on my old Outback and it was still good when I sold it 40K miles after the treatment.

Re: possible dying front diff ???
I have not...sounds like a good idea, but I don't believe that is the case. When I changed out my rear diff, it was good for about 30 minutes and came back. I think it is the solenoid C and the possibly the transfer clutch. I am going to my buddys shop to put her on the lift and take a look though.

with the car in park and with the engine running, see if you can turn the driveshaft. The driveshaft should be able to be turned by hand. If it can not be turned by hand, try it with the engine shut off.

If I raise the wheels off the ground on a lift and give it gas the rear wheels engage with a thud. The thud can also be heard when pushing the brake (exactly the same time the rear wheels stop). The driveshaft turning has shown that the rear diff seems fine, but the thud and binding I have experienced when driving point to the Solenoid C. I was on the phone with Tom today while at my friends shop, and he helped walk me through the diagnosis. Thank you very much Tom. You are truly generous and a great asset here on the forum. I appreciate all the help sincerely, and look forward to doing business with you in the future any chance I can get. (by the way, i still need headers. Let me know what specs you need and I will provide them so you can work up an estimate or something to that effect)
