2JZ-GTE engine swamp ?
hi, i own a 1995 red subaru svx with stock engine and all for some time, im a tuning maniac so i alway wanted to tune my car engine, but never do a try. one of my friend do a accident with his 95 supra, the car is considered total lost and he say i can keep the engine wich seem okay at the first check, i just want to know if it is possible to put a naturaly aspirated 2JZ-GTE engine under the hood of my 'lil svx cause that engine can handle the twin turbo modification compared to a EG33 and deliver massive hp (even if N/A for now)
thanks you in advance to bother with my question, and laters Last edited by Parkko; 06-23-2007 at 09:34 AM. |

that engine is far too tall to fit into an SVX. Sorry, youd be either dragging the pan or poppin out the hood. Besides, if you want to build your SVX motor and go turbo or super charger, it would be cheaper then building a nasp 2j.

I doubt that engine would fit under our hoods, and even if it did, running the piping for twin turbos would probably be just as hard as running twins for the EG33. I think for the price of doing all that (swap and then TT build) you could build a nice EG33 and then add ECUtune's St3 supercharger, even convert to a 6mt.
Dustin Edit: Phil beat me to the punch!

well, running the piping for TT on a 2JZ isnt a problems compared to the EG33, i just do the same piping as those RZ supra, for the tall engine it may be a problems, i dont know if i can move the pan to get some place to put that engine, or maybe do a ungly style hood wich could close on the 2JZ, humph, ill love to put that engine on the svx cause my stock engine is kinda...uhm...beaten O.o

You'll get more side room but the piping will still be more complicated than it would be for someone with a Supra (just about as complicated as it would be to run the piping for an EG33). The .3L extra from the EG makes a good difference when your doing FI, and now that LAN has engine components for our engines (pistons, cams/valves) FI on an EG33 is easier than it used to be. I still think a built EG33 with St3 would be the way to go, if you want a turbo over a supercharger than do a single T3/T04 or even a T4. TT is over-kill IMHO.

yeah, would not bother thinking about TT on a EG33, think i see too much big puting a 2JZ under the hood of a svx. maybe finally i'll just seel that engine and buy some stuff to put on the old and beaten EG33 and see what it will do, or i could just search for another svx engine that hasnt eaten that much crap as mine, well, thanks you for reply

I think Budfreak sells used EG33's for $600-$700, and then talk to LAN from ECUtune about his pistons and valvetrain. Big HP can come from an EG (as Rigoli's Impreza has proven).

This has got to be the worst idea I've heard of in a long time.
I would point out that you could put in a LS1, LS6, LS2 or LS7 in with far greater ease, and make 400 crank HP for little extra trouble even on the LS1. Oh wait the LS7 is 505 crank HP out of the box. I would also point out that the enigne in a non-turbo supra is not the same animal as the one in the turbo supra. So that is also a bad idea. If you really want to put in an inline6, I might suggest starting with a aluminum block BMW engine, or perhaps even the nissan I6 from the skyline GT-S turbo. Both are better engines for various reasons. The skyline motor is far smaller and a bit lighter, the BMW engine is alot lighter. Both are still stupid ideas given the layout of the engine bay. More exotic choices would be a boxter engine, or 996/997 model 911 engine. If you want to go really nuts, It might be possible to get the yamaha V6 into the back Shogun style. Properly built they make alot of HP without turbos, and with turbos it gets insane. Very cheap to buy too. Could leave the front SVX engine in with a FWD auto trans for extra fun at the dragstrip. But thats mostly crazy talk so... stick with building the stock motor, or get to work on putting in a LSx motor. |

It might be easier to understand if you had actually seen the EG33 out of the car. The thing is litterlly 2 feet tall. The 2jz-gte is almost 3 feet tall. The EG33 is already inches from the ground and millimeters from the hood, how you'd get an extra foot out of that i'd really be interested in seeing. They call it a flat 6 for a reason.

You could turn the 2JZ-GTE on it's side.
