Can't get the crankshaft pully off!
I've tried to get the pulley off, but I can't seen to get it to budge. I read about Suby's starter trick, but I'm way too far into it to try that now. I have a long breaker bar, but I can not seem to get enough tension on it to break it free. Is there a trick to this? Also, is the bolt a standard thread, or is it reverse threaded? Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't get the crankshaft pully off!
Unfortunately I have already removed most of the ancillaries (PS pump, Drive belts, radiator, etc). It it possible to still do this trick?
Now that I think about it, it's not like I'm actually going to start the car, it's just a bump start. I should still be able to do it, right? |

Re: Can't get the crankshaft pully off!
As long as you're still got power to the starter it will still crank. Battery still there?
I usually brace mine against the floor somewhere under the battery, saves the car from potential smacks. I have an extension on my breaker bar for it though.

So it's just a little bump of the starter, nothing too long, right? Thanks. Clarke |

Re: Can't get the crankshaft pully off!
Set it up so the bar is under tension and just tap the key into the start position and release, all you're trying to do is pulse the starter. You probably won't even notice the difference in the sound of the engine cranking, it's a pretty easy trick.

I notice that you have a 1985 500 Interceptor. That is the first bike I ever rode, and the first bike I ever wrecked! I still have it in my warehouse waiting for me to take an interest in her again. |
