paint drying time?
I had my car painted recently and have been getting different views on the care of it. A lot of places say not to wax it for 6 months or so. Some even say not to use soap on it for a 'while'. The guy that painted it said that I could do whatever I wanted to do.
What's the scoop? Do I go to town and wash and wax? Does anyone know of a good dressing to put on the rubber stripping at the windows. Thanks. |

Re: paint drying time?
Hop, I am curious about this as well, seeing as I'll be getting my newly painted svx at the end of this month. however, as for the outside weatherstripping, I suggest simply buying new ones, about $70/each at subaruparts, they are very easy to remove and install...the new ones look nice and shiny, much better than my worth and almost grayish looking weatherstripping

Re: paint drying time?
My body man said at least 3 months to cure...if not a little longer. I could wash it all I wanted...just no wax until 3 months+

Re: paint drying time?
It really all dependes on the paint manufactor. We use ppg at work and I wash.sand, and buff all jobs within 10 min of comming out of the booth.

Re: paint drying time?
hmmm..I just got my new (rust free!!) doors painted, so this is good timing. I'll just stick to a gentle wash for now.

Re: paint drying time?
I was told an ABSOLUTE minimum of one month before wax. Actually It's been a year since mine was painted & I haven't had to wax it yet. The clear coat just glows after being washed.

Re: paint drying time?
Ask him what brand of paint was used then ask the manufacturer. It varies by type of paint and brand big time.
