Bare with me passive AWS (in denial) dood. I said she *sounded* like an 80 year old man. Not that I had ever slept with one, I'm sure all of us have heard grandpa snoring away...or maybe it was grandma...see what ya did!

And I've read ahead and will respond to ryan on this post...I already got an internet keyboard for 15.80. I thought that was a good price, and yes I did tear apart the other one first...some of the circuits had gone away. She must drink strong tea. Well, that and the computer is left on all the time so if maybe she had woken me up and told me about it I could have saved it, or at least turned off the power to the thing. She'd been well melted me boyo!

Oh well, things seem much better now. But it sure looks funky having this high priced monitor and fancy skinned puter, and this bleached white keyboard. Guess beggars can't be choosers.

Talking Wow that must be some strong tea!

On the bright side, that is a VERY good price for the keyboard. Good buy.

Doze Mode

Standby's are no-no for all the older PC's, but any PC from the past 6 months without any legacy parts should handle the standby fine.

Hibernation kicks butt though. 20 seconds to power on the machine, and you're back to exactly where you left off. No reloading applications. Should work well with current PC's as well.

I rely heavily on the hibernation feature. Of course, my regular PC is a notebook.

Stay away from it. If you can just leave the pcs on all the time. They don't use that much power. Turn the monitor off.

Time fer a poll fellas. Okay, youse guys that think passive AWS exists, get in that line over there, the nice fellas in the white coats will be helping you out. The rest of us will be in the bah if you need anything.

Well of course it exists Aredub...for you! I have passive windows in mine. If I leave em' up they're passive, when they go down, then they're active, then when I leave 'em down, they're passive again.

I really don't have any problems with standby mode, except that my printer doesn't work when I wake it up and so I have to reboot anyhow. That and occasionally it will turn itself back on in the middle of the night.

Now that I have been playing with this high priced new keyboard I got, I gotta admit that I'm pretty impressed. It has all the bells and whistles my spendy one had and cost less than some of the mice I have bought...makes me wonder how much profit there really is in hardware??? And I bought it at Staples, (that's a retail chain store for those of you that don't have one), so you know they're getting their cut too.

You would be suprised.....

just how little they mark this crap up. On average (if it's an old product) they generally make less than 20% on it. Compared to over 70% on brand new technology. Staples is actually a pretty good place, I used to go to them all the time when I lived in Canada. Much cheaper than places like Best Buy, Future Shop, Circuit City, and the like.

Linux is Ok. Basically since you can pick it up for free. It's cool but if you're gonna go for a Unix varient I highly recommend Irix and an old SGI machine (Indigo R3000/4000 or Indigo2). My Indigo2 and Indigo R4000 can do about anything any windoze machine can and they look cool, very cool. My only problem is when all the machines are on (Indigo, Indigo2 and Personal IRIS 4D/35 Super Turbo, Macs, and PCs) and one of the women in the house turns on the 1.5KW hair dryer it trips the damn breaker. I've only got minutes to shut it all down before my UPS's run out of juice! And one other thing: You can't have my SE/30!

Hmm I'm still a diehard Red Hat fan myself. Although I tend to poke my butt around on Solaris much more. Linux does do all the things that Winblows does, more or less. Much more than any other UNIX I have seen anywhere. I spend my whole work day using it, and talking on here with it. Sheesh, someday I should get some actual work done.
