What are you doing to prepare for Reading?

I no longer have my SVX, but its a pleasure to see you all (..ok most of you ) and see how some familiar cars have changed, some have been kept beautiful, and others saved from the brink of annihilation!

This will be my 8th Reading, and my 4th without a SVX. Though my SVX is gone, its still nice to make the trip, even if you make us non-SVXers park in a different section!

What are you doing to prepare for Reading?

Buttoning up some last minute mods?

Taking care of some maintenance?

Getting that engine bay cleaned up?

Giving your SVX a deserved detail?

(I'll be giving the V70 a well-deserved cleanup, and picking up some liquid provisions for my two-night stay in Morgantown!)

See you there!

Re: What are you doing to prepare for Reading?

I have been working night and day on "Jade".
She is the biggest project that ANYONE has comissioned me to do.
As a result of this HUGE project/modificatuion I probibly will not be able to dragrace my Claret as I will probily will have to scavange parts from Her to make Jade run.
Jades parents, Tom and Melissa have spent/invested a huge/sizeable amount of monies to crerate a VERY special SVX that we hope to present to youse guys at Reading.
I hope that She will be ready, but if not ...It sure has been a valient effort!

Good morning Tom, do you have the torque amount for the bolts that hold the internal filter in the tranny? Is 10-12 fps correct for the pan bolts? First time opening this area for me. I am running syn Royal Purple atf, been in there for 56k miles, still as pink as the day installed in 2000. I change the spin on filter at 7k, works so far. Subaru USA tells me my tranny is the original, no record of rebuilds.

I'm going to drain all the atf I can, then drop the pan, use a little air to get the "what ever' is in the 2 30k gvw coolers (I bypassed the radiator cooler long ago), they allow me to run at 60 degrees over ambient in the 100+ desert temps. After I get as much old atf out I plan to dump in some new cheap atf & hope it forces more old atf out, when the stuff draining looks fairly clean then I'll fill up with the syn Royal Purple. Lots of time to do which I have plenty, way more than money. Should I use any liquid gasket on the pan gasket?(to hold it in place). I predict the answer is "NO".

Tom, be well, hope you are having a nice Spring....

David

I enjoy your "good humor man" persona on the site. keep going...

Wash, wax, vacuum, Armour All the dash, plastic polish on the headlights. In the engine bay, some clean up from my former ATF line leak. Hopefully we get good weather this year!

Re: What are you doing to prepare for Reading?

I've got too much to do if I want to bring both svxs or even just one. I am busy every weekend this month with different activities and with a new job it makes it difficult to get the svxs prepared.

What I need to do:
-deep clean on the claret
-replace fender on pearl
-change oil on pearl
-fix and or replace exhaust on pearl (from killer tomato)
-replace some bolts
-more cleaning
-there's more I'm sure. I just don't remember at this time. Not too much. Hopefully I can get Killer Tomato up on jacks so that I can take the exhaust off. That will be tough since I need to move it before I can jack it up. (front wheel is bent badly). Oh and I still need to book a room for Sat night.

Tom, I hope that the project comes together in time! It will be great to see you there!

Sean, sounds manageable! You might want to try Vinylex on the dash instead of the Armor All (less grease, more natural matte sheen, plus it wont cause out0gassing of the plastic like Armor All does.)

Well...I was planning on driving the Yellow, since it is an SVX meet....but I suppose I could Drive FrankenWedge and claim it as the "Test Mule" for the SVX that Subaru built
(But the Yellow Looks better)

Thanks for the tip, I'll look for it. BTW what did you mean by out0gassing. Obviously a typo but what were you trying to write?

Re: What are you doing to prepare for Reading?

Just replaced my front bumper and both fenders. While the headlights and waterfall were off, I sanded them down and used the buffing wheel on the bench grinder.

Unfortunately, too many loose ends to tie up here.

We should be there by 5:00 (p.m.) tomorrow.

I hear you, Di. Hope I get there in time to have dinner with you all and the other "old" folks! But I'm not known for getting on the road fast, so I may have to catch up with you all later.

No, just small dents from separate parking lot type things over the years.
