You should see the pleco today!
It is about 12.5 inches long now.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

FINALLY got a tracking # for the exhaust cutout. It's scheduled for delivery Friday, so I may well be able to get the exhaust buttoned up so I can drive it home this weekend and get the E85 tune dialed in. Hopefully get the turbo installed sometime next week/weekend.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

Ok, sick of blowing out that one O-ring. I've either not gotten the rail beveled well enough on that one hole, or the pressure from not having a step is just too much for the O-ring to handle. Consequently, as I posted in general, I'm re-doing my fuel rails and applying what I've learned...and will officially be selling sets to anyone interested for $150 shipped in the lower 48. Any takers, please PM me or post in the other thread.

In fact, I'm done considering it...I'm sold.
Do you have an air/water intercooler that you have in mind? I know I have one in my garage that I was going to use years ago for a turbocharged XT6 project. Purchased it from ProECM at the time. I just never got around to turbocharging the XT6.

Update: Found the intercooler. Looks like the intercooler (Laminova type I think it's called), the cooler and water pump. Purchased for over 1k back then and just sat on it like I do most stuff I have lingering around. Just took a camera pic of the pieces.

At any rate, good luck. If you do find one, maybe I could apply this to a future SVX turbo (that you could build perhaps????).

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

I was going to go with a kit from frozenboost, loaded up with all kinds of goodies. Their kits are about 1/3 or 1/4 the price of most of the air to water kits out there, and I've heard nothing but great things about them from people that have actually run them. Lots of trash-talking from people who haven't, but people who have them seem to love them.

In any case, it'll likely be several months before I can afford to make that leap. I'd be willing to consider alternatives in the same $500 or so price range.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

Oh wow, that looks like a pretty decent setup. The heat exchager (radiator) seems rather small...any idea what kind of CFM or HP recommendations apply to that intercooler core?

I'd also prefer one that is a straight-through design, makes plumbing easier with the way my intake is going to be set up. Any idea what you'd want for it? I'd probably have to at least go with a bigger radiator and fan, and add a reservoir for adding ice and such.

Sweet! Good luck either way. Going to read up on this 'Frozenboost' you are talking about. Think the least thing I would need is a water tank of some sort. I'll try to find CFM and HP info.

I was thinking this kit: http://www.frozenboost.com/product_i...7356461b3cbf47

But with the "type 19" intercooler core, plus the ice reservoir they make.

Wow! Those are nice sized coolers. No wonder you were saying that. Gonna have browse some more on that site.

In the meantime, thanks for all the frequent updates. I check this thread religiously.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

Ok, I went out to my parents house last night to use the drill press and scroll saw to make those spacers. The blade that was on the scroll saw was kind of old and crappy and I snapped it about half way through cutting out the first one...and as it turns out, there were no more blades there, so I got the holes punched out but I'm going to have to go back out there tonight or tomorrow with some fresh saw blades to finish them. I think they're going to come out nice though. I happened to find just the right sized hole saw, so all the intake runner holes are perfectly round, smooth, and identical.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish those tonight. I'd also like to pull the exhaust back off and wrap it tonight. Then tomorrow night I'll hopefully be able to finish the last little section of the exhaust if the cutout actually gets here.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

FINALLY got the right oil feed fitting for the turbo. It didn't ship with a copper washer, but I think I have some laying around. I'm headed back out to my parents to cut out the intake spacers, I'll hopefully be able to get some pictures of those up later tonight.

I'm expecting the new fuel rail stock to be here Monday or Tuesday...the exhaust cutout should be here tomorrow, looks like I'm going to have a busy weekend! Pay close attention, I'll probably be updating like a fiend.

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised with this build so far. Still think you're gonna blow up the engine but hey... it'll be interesting.

Oh but what fun I'll have for the few seconds preceding that boom.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

My "phenolic" spacers are basically done, I've just got to epoxy them and I'll post up some pics...probably get around to it here in a few hours.

By the way, like I said, I was able to fit 4 of them on the cutting board, so if anyone wants the other pair I'd do $30 shipped

They're not perfect by any means, but they should do the trick. For the record, they were more of a pain in the ass to make than I anticipated...but not terrible, maybe a couple hours.

Re: SMALL single turbo project, thoughts welcome!

Ok, spacer picture time. Haven't fit them up on the manifold yet, but they match the gasket just fine. I might have been a little bit off on the hole size, as it looks to me like there's too much material left with the gasket on top. I may have to dress the ports a little bit to get them matched with the intake, but all the bolt holes line up, so they'll work just fine.
