Blizzak or X-Ice
Just looking for opinions on snow tires.
I'm looking at the Brigestone Blizzak and the Michelin X-Ice. Also wondering if 205/55 16's will fit alright on stock svx wheels. Thanks.

depending on which blizzak's those are makes a difference as well. You want a tire that wont wear out too fast if you see lots of dry pavement with occasional snow or ice days. I used to live in north dakota and we rarely saw pavement in winter it was always hard pack snow or ice the plows would take the height off but scrapping the pavement was not likely so either of those would work well. |

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
205/55's will work just fine on SVX wheels. They look slightly funny but they are the same diameter, just narrower.
I liked the blizzaks that I had but haven't experienced the X-Ice to know. |

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
If you're driving in the mountains to go skiing and stuff, I would recommend the Blizzaks.
We have them on our Outback (WS-50) and Pontiac Vibe (WS-60). We get a lot of snow around here. |

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
Look into Michelin Pilot Alpin tires. I had those on my Mercedes SL500 which I drove last winter. I was able to go anywhere. Keep in mind that's a rear wheel drive sports car and we get about 120" of snow a year where I live.
Presently I'm running Nokian Hakkas on my S6. I've had Blizzaks in the past and they're great too. Another very serious snow tire is the Gislaved Nordfrost, though they are simply awful in the dry. I think any are a great bet, but my favorite so far have been the Michelin Pilot Alpins.

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
I have tried most of them including the X-Ice and Blizzaks are the best. The X-Ice were not as good and even more noisy!!!

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
Blizzak WS-70 took the place of the WS-60.
If I want Blizzak's, I'll have to order them.

Re: Blizzak or X-Ice
pretty sure i came across an artilcle in regards to the blizzacks, saying that when new they are awesome, but that the way the tire is designed, the rubber outer layer is soft and then when it wears some, the rubber gets hard and is no good after half the tread is gone. Whereas, other snow tires, the tread is still soft with half wear or less. So, blizzacks once wore down slightly, are a hard rubber and not so good whereas, other brands when worn down still stay soft and work great still.
I put nokians on my legacy and will report back.
