Wait, are you saying its NOT FLAT?!?!?!

Yes Mate, saw your reply in the E-Mail notification, I am not try to convince you of anything. I am just saying what I do, others do it differently, we all end up learning something.
No point cluttering this thread with pointless discussion on "Who is right". If you want to start a thread on the topic, I'll discuss it with you.

Cheers Harvey.

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Matt would have the length of the throttle bodiy units, and the length of the ram tubes that you used?
Tony gave me the measurements of the valve to head face of 78mm and the injector body lenght of 80mm.

Harvey.

Just trying to get an accurate inlet measurement of the set that you used. If I can establish what the valve to top of the throttle bodies is, where the ram tubes start, I can tell what length ram tubes to use.

Harvey.

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Apologies Harvey...got held up.

End of bell mouth to head face is 280mm. Butterfly is 80mm to head face.

Port length (head face to back of valve) should be standard...120mm to back of valve is it??

If so, total length of intake is 400mm.

Would be interested what Lotus says about standard cams, these individual intakes and my extractors.

So it looks like your minium length is 238mm. Valve to head face 78 + injector stack 80mm + throttle body 80mm.
We can work on that OK, thanks.

Harvey.

Not sure I need to remind you, but my butterfly diameter is 45mm I think. Does Lotus use that?

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Not quite 10,000 rpms, but...

I decided today to fiddle with one of the EG33 heads that YT had left at my shop some years ago. They are useless for an actual vehicle since the cam caps are all missing.

However I figured they'd be nice to test some porting modifications on.

That said I would like to flow test one intake port and one exhaust port (and am willing to share the results here), but I have no valves or retainers to perform the test with.

Anyone got a set of 2 intake valves, 2 exhaust valves and 4 retainers they'd send me? Just stock stuff, as long as the valves aren't bent they should be fine for testing.

These slightly longer Supertech valves have rekindled my desire to further my cylinder head development! If I can use stock diameter valves and longer springs I can retain the use of the hydraulics but gain some useable valve lift. I did a bit more porting to these ports than I did Jack's heads BTW.

Bob,

Nice! I'll see if I can find what you need, need to see if my welding friend didn't bury the old heads I have too deep when he moved out of his old shop.

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Sorry guys I have been out in the desert giving the SVX a bit of a flogging climbing 1,100 sand dunes and covering 7,000k of dirt.

Okay good point about the gearbox,
the joke is that in the middle of the desert on a dry salt lake I meet the guy that owns this company;-
http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/

He was blown away with what my car was doing so he gave me his business card and suggested I contact him if I need anything.
Next point my current 6 speed has just distroyed its second DCCD and the box has about 250,000 hard k's so it might be time to rebuild it. That being the case the best thing would be to rebuild the box with the right ratio to suit the engine we are building.
What ratios should we ask for. Current diffs are 3.9's.

Next point it may take some time to get up to speed with the forum, what did ring alarm bells in my ear was the fact that Jacks engine died. This is a major concern and we need to know why or at lest what happened or broke. It maybe that the dry sump gets around this problem.

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Tony,

PPG is the best aftermarket gears manufacturer for the subaru gearbox.
They are quite expensive, but virtually bulletproof. I suggest you become rally good friends with the owner.. And probably get a special discount for the SVX community

Keep us posted

Re: Building a 10,000 rpm NA engine.

Tony,

Funny you should bring up the subject of the dry sump, as I was just thinking about it during my 8 hour drive home from dropping my daughter off at college!

1. What's the current status of your set up and near term plans for completion?
2. Do we have any better handle on improving the flow to the rear mains?

Thanks!

Bill
