Your steering/alternator belt probably broke or became very loose.

Probably not. This would not affect the power steering. As mike said, the belt likely snapped or somehow got loose. A new belt, and a 12mm wrench and hopefully she has some helpful coworkers?

Why not raise the hood and simply look at the belts

Re: need help ASAP :(

If you can call her you should be able to walk her through it to at least take a look...
Might get a clue at least about the belt situation.
... worth a try?

Re: need help ASAP :(

So I finally went to replace the crank pulley and it didnt need to be done it turns out it was just extremely loose...i took the belt off and it moved back and forth about 1/4 of inch...now what would make it become so loose?

Look at the woodruff key that holds the pulley in position on the crank and see whether it was damaged. If the pulley you got looks to be in better shape then swap it anyway.

Every time someone needs to change a crank pulley Harvey suggests some loctite stuff to put between the key and the keyway. Search and find out the kind of loctite and in your case I would definitely take the suggestion and use it so that the pulley doesn't have any play back and forth against the key. That might be why the bolt worked its way loose. And torque the bolt exactly to spec. I think the bolt is a 22mm head.
