Steering problem after new tires and alignment
I hope no one gets angry because I now have a Baja since my Svx went bad. but the forums that do have the Baja don't seem to have anyone that can help.anyway this is the problem, I had new cooper tires put on and then it was aligned , and since then the steering is not as free moving when driving down the road as it was. I now have to put forth way more effort to keep the car straight in the lane. I took it back to the shop , he put it back on the rack and said it was right on according to specs. which he got from the Vin. Something is wrong has anyone had that situation. again I apologize for this not being still my SVX. Thanks Vernon

Re: Steering problem after new tires and alignment
New tires can bring about huge changes in the handling characteristics of a vehicle. Different tread patterns, harder/softer sidewalls, different load rating, different tire type to name a few.
An all season or summer tire will usually track better than a gnarlier offroad/ on off road tire. Tire pressure will also have an influence. |

When sitting still how does the power steering feel? Check your power steering fluid to see what the color is. What year is your Baja?

Re: Steering problem after new tires and alignment
Thanks for replying, it is a 2003 , it steers fine when sitting still it is only when driving at highway speeds that it is bad, just driving in town or slowly it is ok,, I did take it to another alignment shop only to ask his opinion and the guy there said that the shop that did the aligning had the castor at the high side of acceptable , but he wasn't sure that would make that problem.. I watched the first shop check the alignment and when he had the car up on the jacks the wheels turned freely, it seems like something to do with the alignment.. but then I don't know , it is puzzling. I just know it isn't a pleasure to drive like it used to be..

Re: Steering problem after new tires and alignment
Higher, more positive castor would make the steering slightly harder to turn, but make it more stable at high speeds.
IF the rear wheels are toe out then the car/Subaru is MUCH harder to keep in a strait line. As Blacky said double check your tire pressures. The correct pressures should be on your drivers door jam.
