FS: 1997 SVX LSi - Lower price!

State SVX is in: Rochester, NY

Year: 1997

Model: LSi

VIN: JF1CX8651VH100004, I ran a Carfax, and it has some very WRONG info. I have owned the car since 2004, I am the third owner. It has been registered in NY since 2004. For some reason, the carfax states that it was registered in Wisconsin and or Wisconsin, NY.

Paint Color: Black

Interior Color: Beige

Miles: 167,9xx

Options: A/C, CD Player, Sunroof

AWD or FWD: AWD

Modifications: Transmission filter

Major service: Nothing unexpected. Trans replaced before I owned it (purchased by me at 120k in 2004)

Engine Condition: Good, leaking some engine oil, just enough to make the underside of the valve covers a mess. Not enough to warrant adding new oil between changes.

Maintenance Records: None available, other than what I tell you I have done. I did all maintainence myself. Most recently, replaced battery (<6mnths old), radiator, and driver side brake caliper.

Transmission condition: No abnormal problems. Have replaced fluid and internal filter recently, also added an aftermarket filter.

Glass condition: Good. Still has original glass all around. Scratches on driver window from rolling up and down, not severe.

Type of tire and remaining tread: All season Sumitumo S4 (I think) with at least 50% useable tread remaining. Exact depth to follow soon. EDIT: Tires are Kuhmo Ecsta, was thinking of Sumitumo on other car... Tread depth is conservatively 7/32.

Type of wheels: Stock. Simply cosmetic, but two of the wheels (fronts) are backward, when i had these tires mounted, they put them that way. I never bothered to go back and have them changed.

Interior condition: Good, typical wear on driver seat, no holes or tears. Door armrest cloth is visibly worn, and slightly discolored. Some small cracking at top/back of rear seats

Body condition: OK. Several cosmetic issues. Right rear dent under taillight. Front left fender dented in parking lot, front right fender dented in parking lot, both right wheel wells have dents again, from being hit while parked. No accidents since I have owned it.

Known defects or problems: Slight coolant leak, most likely at the connections at bottom of radiator (rad is new last year). Slight oil leak, doesn't leave puddles, but leaks enough that the bottom of the engine has become pretty dirty. Leak is at rear of oil pan. The sunroof track and or motor is jammed on the right (passenger) side, so the sunroof is not in optimal working order. Also, the right ball joint and drive axle were recommended to be replaced, it still passed inspection, but the service was recommended because the axle boot was torn, so it could become a problem. Finally, the front driver strut should be replaced sometmie soon, it is a little soft. I replaced the passenger strut when I first got the car.

Comments about the car: It will need some work to be a reliable daily driver, or will be best for parts. The body is in fine shape, but it is showing its age. It does run and drive fine, and requires little upkeep, except adding coolant now and then.

Asking price: $1500, make an (reasonable) offer!

Pictures: Ok, it is incredibly DIRTY, but since there are alreayd two responses, here are some pictures. http://picasaweb.google.com/nayrhyno...eat=directlink

Condition update:
-There are a couple very rust minor spots you can see in the pics (on the lip of the rear driver side fender), and the under side (frame/unibody) is nothing major. Just surface rust. I would say that the core of the car is in good shape for its age.
-I did recently adjust the band brake on the auto tranny, sometimes (according to folks on these forums) an indicator of near future high clutch problems, however I hardly had any symptoms (just loss of power a few times in 4th at cruising speed, only happened with me driving twice) before I adjusted it, and all seems well now.
-Missing the spare donut, didn't have one when I bought it. I had a fifth wheel, but one of them cracked, so it was trashed. Currently no spare tire.

EDIT: Forgot to put FS: in the title, can a moderator fix that? I can't seem to edit the title.

Re: 1997 SVX LSi For Sale

1500 for a car that sold for around 37,000 new 12 years ago, this is a GREAT DEAL.

Re: 1997 SVX LSi For Sale

Maybe I should ask for more? Haha, it is not in perfect shape, but its an SVX. I don't really know what its worth except to look at KBB or Edmunds, but it has given me a lot, and I got a good deal when i bought it 5 years ago. I added a link to pics, the car is incredibly dirty, but I figured pictures of it unwashed are better than none.

Also, I attached a copy of a carfax, but it is very wrong. See note in OP (car was never registered in Wisconsin).

The failed emissions test was an O2 sensor, which I replaced, and it subsequently passed.

Re: FS: 1997 SVX LSi

Apparently the previous owner was rear ended a few times or something. The only damage that I was able to see (it was repaired before I got the car) was a little to the under trunk area. The trunk molding and the bottom area are just a little out of whack. The molding jsut doesn't quite want to stay in place, which indicates that maybe there is a slight mis-shapen-ness to the trunk area.

There aren't any rust holes or anything. The car is not THAT rusty for a 12 year old NY car. There are a couple very minor spots you can see in the pics, and the under side is nothing major. Just surface rust. I would say that the core of the car is in good shape for its age. It will, as I said, need some maintenance to get it back to great condition.

Sry I haven’t posted anything in a month. I had some trouble getting the title for my replacement car, and am still waiting for good old NY to process it, so I am still driving the SVX for another few weeks. It's still for sale, just not available for a few weeks.

Re: FS: 1997 SVX LSi

Well, this thread is making a return from the dead. I thought I had sold this car (rant coming), but was repeatedly left hanging by a member who expressed interest, but 3 times he stated he was making the trip to get it, and three times he was un-responsive the day before the supposed trip. Now I had to re-register (and insure) the car because I can't let a car sit with no plates for too long at my housing complex. So (/rant), here we go again.

Anyone interested in buying this car? Current asking price is $1500.

It is still in the same condition as last reported, edited the OP to show current condition. I did recently adjust the band brake on the auto tranny, sometimes (according to folks on these forums) an indicator of near future high clutch problems, however I hardly had any symptoms (just loss of power a few times in 4th at cruising speed, only happened with me driving twice) before I adjusted it, and all seems well now.

Re: FS: 1997 SVX LSi

Pics are in a link in the OP, just toward the end of the post. Hard to get nice pictures during a NY winter, so the car is pretty dirty in them, ignore that .

Well, I finally listed this car on ebay. I have been lazy selling it because deep down I still like it. I jsut don't have the time to restore it

Someone buy it! The reserve is lower than the buy it now... If anyone thinks the listing needs additional information, kindly let me know. I put it up in a hurry.

Re: FS: 1997 SVX LSi

I'd add some more interior pics. Some people will give the exterior a lot of lee-way, provided the interior is good. More pictures are always better, gives people something to lust after and get attached to while they are considering.
