What part are you trying to loosen? If it is the tensioner itself, you would turn it counter-clockwise to loosen the belt.

I've tried turning it counter clockwise, and it doesn't come loose. Maybe I'll spray the sliders with WD or something.

FIRST you have to loosen the 12mm lock nut on the face of the pulley that you are trying to adjust!

Thanks Tom. I Ass/U/me-d that he had done that and I should have mentioned it. Yes, what Tom said. If you don't loosen it, you won't be able to move the adjuster slide with the bolt.

losen the nut on the pulley
then turn the adjusting screw ccw to loosen the belt tension, cw to tighten belt tension
the adjusting bolt has left hand threads Last edited by kwren; 09-09-2007 at 05:58 PM. |

I got it eventually, I just pulled the whole thing apart and cleaned it off very well, then I thought "maybe this front bolt has to be loose". thanks for the help. BTW. what would you all recommend for a squealing belt?

It kind of depends. There are a few things that could cause it to squeal. You might just need a new belt, but If its a newer belt and its squealing then you could try belt dressing. It might also be because you have the belt too tight or too loose. If you are going to buy a new one I'd recommend getting it from the dealer. I always buy mine from the dealer because they are only a few bucks more and they just look and feel soo much better than the ones you get at Autozone, Schucks, etc. Thats just my opinion though.

I did get a little liquid wrench and anti freeze on the belt while I was working on my car, it should just wear off I suppose?
