Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"

Bazza asked for more info on how they are fitted.

Cut 50mm off the front of the top pipe then the new housing slips over the pipe and is welded on. Need to also cut off a bit of the power steering support bracket.

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"

Looks good, I would much rather pay for that, rather than a universal one, even if yours is a bit more expensive. Much cleaner.

cheers

Tony,

Sign me up for one!

My only suggestion/request is for those of us who don't want to start pulling the top front of the engine bay apart and then have to get a qualified aluminum welder to work his/her magic. Can you design in a short stub on the backside (with a circumferential bump for sealing) that would allow for a short section of silicone rad hose line to be used to pipe in the thermostat housing in lieu of welding?

Thanks!!

Bill

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"

How much benefit would there be from just moving the t-stat up top?

Moving the stat and deleting the redundant circuit is prob all that needs to be done imho for a road car that might get some track time

Re: SVX Engine cooling "Again & Again"

All my road cars have larger suction pipes on the water pump. If you plan to rev the car above 5k for any resonable period and don't change the suction pipe to the water pump you will cook your engine.
That's my experiance and I would have spent more hours running tests on the cooling system on these engines then any person on the planet, I would even go so far as to say more then Subaru other wise they would have figured it out as well. Maybe they have as the Tribecca has a large suction pipe they just haven't figured that the thermostate won't work on the pump.

Thats my two bobs worth, now to go back to the 10k project.

Think I'll have to introduce you to the WRX clubs I'm apart of. The guys over there would lap this info and research which you're doing, especially the cooling system results which we'll be able to publish soon and I know some are waiting with baited breath as the improvements will help quite a few race cars. It's very disappointing when I see people thinking they've fixed the problem with a ghetto crossover pipe or a thermostat WITH no direct return to the pump (fail) and then have absolutely no data to determine if what they've done has worked or if they've just pissed into the wind. Neither do they realize the thermostat cover is 95% of the issue which you've proved beyond doubt. Anyway....
