Cost of Hotel?

I finally got around to calling the Holiday last week, and they told me the place was FULL! Anyhow, I went thru the national office, and got a room on the top floor, but it cost me $139 a night! They told me to talk to the manager when I getthere to prove that I'm a member of the SVX Club, so I may need you to back that up. Anyhow, they said the manager could swing the discount for me at that time...maybe. So if it isn't too imposing, what are the rest of you paying for two nights? Last year I paid $136 for TWO nights. See you there, but it might be Saturday morning if I can't get a discount!

Well, heck, should we try to open up a few more rooms at the discount price? Like I said elsewhere, I'm going to be at the mighty Econo Lodge a few miles north of everybody else to the tune of $75/night.

EDIT: I bailed on the Econo Lodge (see below), and will be at the Holiday Inn, if anybody needs me.

I will try to keep this short.

THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR!!

The reason I negotiated the Reading 8 contract so early (last June) was to give everyone a chance to register early, even if they weren't sure they would attend.

Securing rooms early meant that if the reserved block of rooms filled up quickly, the hotel would have time to add extra ones as needed before offering them to another group.

The hotel has been very good about this and gave us the heads-up on the other groups inquiring about rooms for the Reading weekend. Tia wanted to offer them to us first as "preferred returning customers"

The hotel only uses your credit card to secure your room; nothing is charged against your card... you pay only after you use the room and check out.

So nine months after the contract and dates, etc was posted here, along with all room information, including reservation cutoff and cancellation dates, etc. I see members scurrying to try to get a room two weeks before the event.

If registered, you can cancel within 48 hrs. and not have a penalty. This is much easier than trying to get a room late. Like the IRS deadline, there is a penalty to be paid if you procrastinate and miss the filing (or in this case, reservation cutoff) date.

If I do this again next year the reservation cutoff date will be a LOT earlier.

So register early and cancel later if you have to. Or if registered and you have to cancel, offer to let another procrastinating member have the room before you give it back.

(getting down off the soapbox now...)

Yeah, what HE said. The only thing we can do, above and beyond what we are already doing, is to PM every member who is on the sign-up list (or who we think MIGHT want to be on the sign-up list and hasn't gotten around to signing up yet) and tell them to reserve their room. Sorry for your inconvenience, but, like Christmas, you know this event happens every year at the same time..........

Hey "New Guy",
I don't think either John or Diana were suggesting YOU were inconveniencing anyone with the last-minute stuff. You clearly understand that a lot of work went into setting this up with the hotel, but there are many that just flat don't care and become really ticked off when they can't get a room (at the discounted rate) at the last minute.
I think the message here is that if one even THINKS they might attend, it is best to reserve a room and cancel out at least 48 hours before the event if they can not make it.

But in any event, I do hope you can come to the meet - I look forward to meeting you there!
Harry
