I've bought both, and I can tell you that while the O.E. style with plastic tanks is cheaper, the aluminum one has larger tanks, looks and works better, though it does cost slightly more. In my case the cost was about even, since the first time I had the O.E. style installed by a shop and the aluminum one I did myself.

With the aluminum rad, fitment was not 100% perfect, but you don't seem like the type that would mind.

You could always go with that Silla rad. People seem to like that. My only real peeve with the PWR so far is it won't stay shiny and clean.

Ended up ordering this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBAR...spagenameZWDVW

From the advice I got when I spoke with Tom about them. Hoping really badly that no engine damage occured ... I guess I'll know sometime next week when the new Rad comes in...

Thanks for the responses guys

Significant Technical Input
if someone wouldnt' mind sumarizing the info on this radiator for me....

Do they do anything to make it cool the engine coolant better? It's a single pass from top to bottom right?

Have they fixed whatever to make it a perfect drop in?

Sorry to ask for a recap instead of reading it all on my own but I think most will know and respect the current pressures on my time.

Michael,
If my memory is right, the primary issue with the PWR radiator was the neck for the cap. The initial run had a neck that caused the cap to hit the underside of the hood. I believe the second run corrected this problem. I think YT has a PWR radiator in his car, so you could check with him directly.

There is a How-To Doc that shows the installation. It still has some issues, but they are not major.

I have a revised unit and there are no hood clearance issues with the cap, however the top locating pins are out by a relatively small amount. Also, the overflow spout came loose after a few months, but was easily threaded back in.

Under normal driving, I have not noticed a decrease in running temps, but I haven't checked to see if the fans run less often or not. I suspect that under race conditions it would function more effectively than the stock unit, and some members who have installed this do race with it, but I can't confirm their experience personally.

Tranny

The primary advantage was for increased transmission cooling capacity.

It is a 4 pass instead of a 1 pass (transmission fluid).

'Primary purpose' depends heavily on whom you ask I guess. I bought this one so that I'd never have to deal with a cracked plastic tank again.

I no longer have any use for an automatic trans oil cooler, so I'd been considering running the tranny cooler portion as an engine oil or gear lube cooler. Though I've been told that neither of those things is necessary.

If you look on Ebay there's usually one for auction.

There is a PWR radiator currently listed on Ebay, but the price is up about $50 from what it was a couple months ago.
