Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

@NikFu - what kind of tires do you have on that thing? It is a fairly steep driveway though I'll admit, I was really expecting you to make it up there!

No no, he was tackling it like a Thug and had the appropriate music on (I kid) perhaps the track should have been something far more aggressive however

Generic ones, I think. I bought these tires with the Honda wheels they are on from some guy with an Accord. Being that they came from a FWD the wear is uneven. They also have different treads, which I had to point out to the guy. Knocked $60 off his price.

Well, someone is a music prude.

I actually did try the hill again today with different music on and I made it up, so maybe you are on to something.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Put my new Maniac alternator in! I couldn't unbolt the tensioner... I was starting to round the bolt off. But, using my resourceful, pre-engineering skills, I was able to get it off anyways! I just unbolted the alternator, pushed it down as far as I could, then used the slightly larger amount of slack to push the belt off one tooth at a time, by turning the alternator pulley. It worked! Got the new one in by the same principal, and then used the leverage from that final screw to put the tension back to normal.

What happens later when you need to change the belt?

or spend 20 bucks on the stretch belt tools. they are meant for installing the stretchable belts on new subarus. looks like two little shoe horn things, one takes the belt off and one installs it. they work great when you just can't get enough slack.
I have these but the cheaper one is the same idea.
