@208k Miles now, my SVX has been my DD for the past year with only minor issues needing attention, biggest one being blower motor for the AC and minor being new o2 sensors. 2011 was a nice year to drive it!

Idk, people here seem very worried to take theirs far away from home on trips in general. I take completely untested SVXes and take them on very long distance trips.

Keep in mind you have more mechanical ability/confidence and probably travel with more spare parts than many here.
I personally don't feel that comfortable taking mine more than 150-200 miles. It has scared me too any times. Only had to tow it once but there have been several times where it has had issues, but made it home. Also there is not much point anyway as I have a newer car that I can use confidently and has better gas mileage.

Very cool!
I'm looking forward to 2012 being a great year for me and my "Black Beauty".

BTW, you have some awesome photos on your "tumbler" page!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Recently got the Krown rustproofing. Installed an engine block heater. Now I need to experiment with how long to plug it in before I start the car up in the morning...as a function of temperature, of course.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

If it's a true engine block heater, just plug it in the night before and forget it. Otherwise it takes about 2.5-3.5 hours to raise the temperature of a 3.3L engine, using a 300-400w heater

They are much better at warming the engine block evenly than using the oil dipstick heaters which only warm the oil immediately surrounding it.

I have one of these installed on my 2010 Outback and it works beautifully. whenever the temperatures get really cold, I just plug it in the night before. The small increase in power usage is offset by the convenience.
